I removed my entire ECM wiring harness from the TPI and sold it with the TPI. The only wires I ended up keeping off that were the wiper motor wires.

but my harness came with a new driver side firewall connector.

ahh ok. when i get a harness im gona pull one, because ill be able to label where everything goes as it comes out, i feel itll be alot easier for me.

but hooking my guadges up im gona have to look at this form to see what goes where. but when i have those hooked up shouldnt my speedo and RPM work just fine?

With a 4L60/700R4 both gauges will work fine.

With a T56 a converter is needed to convert the speedo signal into something the gauge can handle.

Its all there, most of it in this thread.

I tryed to build my own but now I am going to sent both out the c 207 from the 86 and the 94 lt1 engine harness and have some one who know has to put them together for around $400

pianless harness is the best way...took me 4 hours to wire everything and get it running...also now you have a new engine harness dont have to deal with old wires that can give you problems...my car starts up everytime no problems

You all should trying to pm Pocket he sells and makes harness for the LT1 swap ALOT cheaper than the painless. It's really not that hard if you have both harness.

Your '55 would have used a generic X circuit harness centered around the fuseblock. Basic tail lights, headlights, carb distributor etc. EFI harnesses are more expensive because they use about 4x the amount of wire (copper is expensive) and 20x the connectors ($8-18 ea adds up). Dont forget, each companies definition of "plug and play" is different. To do a LTx/LSx swap in something like your '55, you'd need the basic harness first, then their "P&P" piece. For a 3rd gen you'll still have to use some sort of stock engine harness to get the basic power, IGN, gauges, fuses, relays etc connected. You cant simply use a painless harness out of the box and expect anything to happen

What is P102? Take a pic

Put your confusion aside and make a punch list of the swap and how you're doing each phase. Itll take alot of guesswork out so you can focus on the important aspects and not forget anything

Re: LT1 Wiring for dummies

ok, im hoping somebody here can help me, i just finished doing an lt-1 swap on my 85 camaro. its finished and running. the motor and wire harness is from a 1994 impala ss, i used the original impala wire harness. the problem i am having is that i cannot get my oil press. gauge or tach to work. i want to use the original instrument cluster! everyhing else works, water temp, speed, volts, fuel, but no tach or oil press. rite now im using the signal wires from the impala harness and ran them directly to the cluster, according to all the diagrams i have seen all my wires are in the proper locations. any ideas of why they dont work?

Re: LT1 Wiring for dummies

I had Pocket do my swap harness. I don't understand what "red 5" means and what "p102" means.

Give me instructions that say "connect this purple wire to this green wire," and I'm good he he he. That's as far as my electrical wiring ability goes.

It's hard for me to study up on this stuff when I work 70 hours a week and go to school full time.

I'm glad guys like Pocket know what's up because it helps those of us who don't know.

I admire all the guys on here who did the wiring for their swaps themselves.

If it were as easy as connect the green to the purple, there would be one wiring thread to end all. Every swap is different, so there isnt a one size fits all answer

Red 5 is the PCM pin, it really doesnt help with the swap and Im not sure why the question came up

To answer your question though, you cut those connectors off and splice them to various parts of the 3rd gen harness. Finding the pinout will tell you what each wire does so you dont have to trace them individually with a meter

To a message a user, click their name on the left and a drop down menu will appear. Select send private message to xyz

Please refrain from asking technical questions via PM. This is a public forum and many people often have the same question, so posting it out somewhere like here (if its LT1 harness related) will garner the best benefit and draw from the pool of other members as well

Re: LT1 Wiring for dummies

hey all I'm thinking about doing the lt1 swap out of a 95 caprice... everything else I can deal with except the wiring... re-pinning and whatnot I can do that and have done it before so no issues there either.... is that symatic that was provided at first for the 4th gen f-body harness is it the same as the caprices??? if not could I buy a f-body harness and use that??? instead of the d-body harness??? I work at a auto salvage so used parts would be easier for me to locate.... anyone be willing to let me add them to facebook that has done the swap before incase I have any questions come time of the swap??? thanks again

Re: LT1 Wiring for dummies

You can use the f-body harness it will do the same thing. Look thru the stickies Pocket has several diagrams that are better than this. The wiring is not that hard to do just read over the stickies you'll get it.

Re: LT1 Wiring for dummies

Tought about my old camaro today and came to the forum to see how that thread grew over the years. glad a few of you found useful info even if my english wasn`t the best!.

I hope you all I had fun doing it, for my part I did but moved to other projects.,,

All in all it was more of a learning process in mecanics and electrical. My camaro did 13.6 at the time which was for me quite fast. I had fun.

Now a teacher in machining and electro mecanics. still talking about all this with my students.

take care all !

PS, did I see 258000 views... wooowzer!!!
