Re: LS1 1991 Z28 Swap
I took off the Spohn adjustable torque arm, I cant run the exhaust the way I want. I started by swapping to a Jegster Torque arm. It wasnt bad to install, pulled the console and seats, pulled the carpet up. The carpet is actually separate from the cargo carpet so it wasnt bad. Then pull everything apart and started drilling holes. I was worried it might ride hash, but it is the same as the Spohn, and gives me massive clearance for my future exhaust.

Re: LS1 1991 Z28 Swap
Here is another pic of the Jegster and its awesome clearance. I also put on an exhaust crossmember. My next step when I have time, is to install the StainlessWorks 1.7/8 primary, 3inch collector LS1 swap hedders. I cant wait to get that ugly y pipe off of there and do a custom 3inch y pipe tucked up nice and tight. I am stoked. I am going to a leaders course for the Army, when I get back I hope to do a Raptor cam and spring upgrade.

nice updates
never seen that type of torque arm set up
you mean 1 3/4 headers right? i dont think ssw makes 1 7/8 primaries.

Re: LS1 1991 Z28 Swap
were you able to clear your e-brake bracket with the jegster torque arm bracket? I really wanted to go that route but ended up sending it back because I couldn't get it to clear the e-brake bracket.

Yes. I just made sure all was lined up before I ratcheted down on the Jegster bracket. Works fine.

Re: LS1 1991 Z28 Swap
Okay, I realize I need rubber, just doing measurements and making sure this is the route I want to go. I have a 4th gen 2002 SS Camaro rear end and it does not require spacers for the 4th gen wheels I have or the C6 rims I am comparing.
Give me constructive criticism and not, "oh them is too dang wide" junk. Tell me what you think over all and if I am overlooking something.
Rim comparison
I have a fourth gen rear end and the back of my car is basically the same as a fourth gen. With the 2002 rear end I do NOT need spacers for fourth gen rims. Here are my 2002 SS split spoke rims, 17x9.
Here is the 2009 C6 Z06 19x11 knock offs I bought with a 64mm offset. NO spacer needed.
Distance from the bulge on the body of the wheel well on the C6 rim
Distance from the SS rims
SS rim front looking back

C6 rims front looking back
C6 rim looking down front the wheel well bulge, only come out a 1/2 inch compared to the SS rims due to the offset
SS rim looking down from wheel well bulge
Everything clears on the bottom
After the tire is on I will probably need to do the big hammer mod, but the rim clears quite well.

The Hawks crossmember does not have provisions for a torque arm mount. The jegster bolts to the tunnel. I think its a great piece of hardware.

Re: LS1 1991 Z28 Swap
Thought I would share my head and cam swap. Stock engine with stock manifolds it made the 300rwhp/300rwtq.
I decided to be a little conservative on the cam so the valvetrain and stock shortblock wouldnt take too must punishment.
The cam is an MTI X1 230/227 .591/.571 lsa 112

Re: LS1 1991 Z28 Swap
The heads are port and polished 799's which are the same as 243 minus the hollow valve stems.

Re: LS1 1991 Z28 Swap
Dyno Tune. 2002 LS1 with CNC ported 799 heads and MTI X1 camshaft. Put down 415rwhp and 398rwtq thru a crappy exhaust with a cut out. Also has electric water pump, LT, cold air intake. I think with a better exhaust and a better tune there is more in this set up. But it has proven to be a reliable daily driver with great street manners.

Re: LS1 1991 Z28 Swap
Nice gains after the heads and cam swap! Really nice car overall congrats. Happy to hear you are daily driving it with no problem because that is the plan for my setup as well.
How much of a pain in the butt was it to do the cam swap with the engine still in the car?

It was actually very easy to do with the engine in. I used LS1HOWTO.COM as a reference and did it over a weekend so I wasnt in a rush.

Re: LS1 1991 Z28 Swap
Did you ever finish hooking up the A/c in your car? If you did what lines did you use, the 4th gen ones or the 3rd gen ones? My car had just the dryer under the hood when I got it. I have the 4th gen compressor, like you, I am just trying to get my a/c to work. My car is like riding in oven in the summer time. If you could put a couple pictures of it up too, that would be great p.s. your car looks great love the wheels!

My ac works great. Went to a local ac shop and they built the lines and charged/checked for leaks.

Re: LS1 1991 Z28 Swap
So I sold my Z28 because I wanted a GTO. Is it me or do we all, always regret selling our cars? I miss her. And the guy I sold it to bought it to flip it. Didn't make any money though because there just isn't much of a market for 3rd gens. Then that guy sold her again only to have the next guy blow the motor. Last I knew they were selling her as a roller.

Oh man, that sucks! I've been through quite a few third gens and the only one I regret selling was my first. It wasn't anything special just an 88 IROC 350tpi/700R4 with 2.77s out back T-top, but it was a blast to drive and had the right feel. I might just regret it because it was my first or because the one I replaced it with was such a basket case, but eventually I found another 3rd gen that I think will be a forever car; 91 1le LS1/T56 34k miles on the body when I got it, sitting around 43k now.
You should see about buying it back as a roller. There are so many more options now motor wise since you did your swap.
What made you go with a GTO?

Re: LS1 1991 Z28 Swap
Not sure I would want it as a roller, too depressing. I do think I will pick up a 92 Z28 at some point and do a similar build. As far as a GTO we had a 2004 as a family car for a bit. I got tired of the typical 3rd Gen issues since it had been my daily 15 plus years and got the bug out of the blue for something different. I swore I would keep the GTO stock. I have since bought a Tfs LS2 550hp top end kit. It never stops.
