oil pressure

what is everybody oil pressure at idle??also note what viscostiy oil you are using...I just rebuillt my 1999 LS1, oil pressure using a mechanical guage, @ idle operating temp, 25 psi, off idle 35-40 psi...i know that this isnt too low but i thought that it might be higher..im using 5w-20 to break it in, maybe its just the viscosity that is givin me this low oil pressure..also what is the recommended oil for these motors??thanks

Re: oil pressure

Both of mine have around 50 at idle with 5w30. Yours sounds alittle low. Did you use a new oil pump? Or possibly damaged the o ring.

Re: oil pressure

My '98 cold sits around 60 at idle and 40 when warmed up, after driving for 25+ miles at 75mph it drops to around 35 or so with 178k miles on the clock. These motors are supposed to run 5w30 in them, the 5w20 may be too thin.

Re: oil pressure

Mine has similar oil pressure with a new pump. If its too low for you add some shims under the bypass spring

Re: oil pressure

Mine sits around 40-45 at idle when its warmed up. Cold its a good bit about 50 or 60. I run Castrol GTX 5w30.

I also have a ported oil pump.

Thats from the best of my memory anyway...
