Re: LS1/4L60E Swap into my 87 Z28
As for the fittings I went to Summit down the street and bought all the fittings listed above in the diagram. I used his part numbers that was listed.
I finally got done painting my entire engine bay. White is a HARD color to get good. Took a few hours of prep. Accually used Duponts paint and it matched perfect. All spray can. Above 5 cans of that and 5 cans of clear. Looks professional accually. (Not top of the line though) I have a little bit of painting on the frame and I'm about to bolt back in the new K member and everything.

I put my long tubes on the car when the motor and transmission were already installed. It's easy. They fit really well.

Thanks Blue.
Im trying to decide 2.5 or 3in collectors, but my need to use cats might decide that for me.
Also, Im trying to find pics of y pipes for these LS1 swapped cars. If you find any, post them up!

I hope this helps. The headers are the 3" collectors, and it's a fully custom y-pipe although the shop had to go down to 2.5" just in the junction, then it opens back up to 3" before going back to the bullet muffler.
And that is the Spohn cross member with torque arm mount. I had to do some extensive trimming on that to clear the sub frame connectors.

I have a question. Is the y pipe that Hawks sells really that bad? Is it a fitment problem or just quality overall that is a problem?

Re: LS1/4L60E Swap into my 87 Z28
Well, its in.
Ive decided to stay with the third gen tank, so I picked up one of these bad boys..
I think Im gunna replace all the line with russle stuff, gotta find that picture that Pocket made with all the pn's on it.
Hopefully Ill be getting ready to fire it up in a few weeks. I called John over at Speartech, and the harness should be here by next week. Gunna order the headers tomorrow and have them ready.
I have a few questions:
1: the through bolts for the motor mounts...anyone know the length? Are they standard LS1 bolts?
2: Who has installed an aftermarket electric speedo into thier cars? Difficult or no?

High pressure side is the 98-02 Fbody piece. $27ish from Advance if you dont have one already
Low side is reused from the 3rd gen. Its just a short length of rubber trans line

Plus I got my vette filter new from GM for 12 bucks. Yea 12 Bucks. I had my buddy who works there find an origional part number filter before it was superceded and that dealer had it at 70% off or something super stupid. If anybody has connections at the dealer have them do it. He had a few others under 20 bucks...

Nice deal!
My fuel line and fittings came out to a bit over 135...more like 175 now I guess.
I also picked up a Walbro 255lph pump to feed the need. Figured I have to drop the tank anyway.

You MIGHT be able to squeeze by with 10' but I bought 20 just in case I messed up so I could re-do it.
My line and fittings were about $135 too I think.

I bought 2 rolls of 20' sicne it wasnt very expensive. Good thing too, between the racecar and swap car Ive needed it. Trans lines gave me a fuss so I did them in AN6 too. Stuff comes in handy

You should make a diagram of all the part numbers you used for the trans lines (like your fuel filter one) I made steel / rubber oil cooler lines for mine, but am thinking about ditching them for braided SS lines.

I have a question reguarding the Speartech harness and hooking it up to the fuel system.
The harness comes with a fuel pump relay, and a long gray wire. Do I just splice this wire into the factory wire going back to the bulkhead? Should I lift up the carpet and guide it that way?

I thought about that, but there is already a wire going back to the tank, so I was trying to save myself running all that line to the back by just splicing it into the existing gray wire.

If it is the same gauge as the factory wire I would say splice it where ever you want. If it is heavier than what you have I would say run it to the back, you will have less of a voltage drop in that case. I know when I bought my Racetronix pump they have a whole wiring kit and they provide a heavier gauge wire in the kit. I think they call it a "Hot wire" kit or something

Alright, my question now is what to do with the coolant line off the intake? I see a lot of people taping the top of the water pump, but what about just tapping the upper hose?

Is that brake line up against the header?
I dont think that the hose would be a good place to tap, there would be no way to seal the hose well for the pressure the system sees. Well if you are running a 3rd gen radiator you can use the upper coolant return intended for the heater core and plumb the steam line into that. From the info I was given in a thread I asked, this is what I intended to do.
Did you get the power steering hose situated yet too?

Is that how the harness looks after speartech ships it to you, no loom on it anywhere? You could have saved a good chunk of money getting one from pocket and it would be loomed and ready to go for a fraction of the price. I'm just sayin' that's gonna be a few more hours of work tidying it up with loom, no fun lol

I ran my hose to the port where the heater hose would go on the radiator with a regular sbc.

I guess I'm not sure what you're talking about either, because I'm looking at the open bunch of wires by the back side of the drive side head, the cluster that appears to be going up to the windshield wiper blades in one of the pics, and the coil/injector wires. I'm not hatin' just saying you'd think for the price they charge they could at least loom everything for you.

You caught me on the coil wires. My iPhone doesn't like when I zoom in on photos hosted online, makes them really blurry. But I still see a lot of naked wiring and no my eyes are just fine thanks. I hope Al doesn't think I'm being negative towards his swap. It's certainly not the case.

I havent seen everything Al got but maybe tubing is included for the rest of the "bare" wires.
I could have sworn that Speartech used the black expanding sleeving and I thought I saw that on that yellow bunch back there

So, the upper return that goes into the rad? Hrm...sounds like a good idea! Thank you sir.

I think the coil wires are stock LS and they just plug into the Speartech harness but I may be wrong.

Correct, I got it.
We have now gotten to the part where we have to marry the two harneses together. Pocket, I might need you help in this, and anyone else chime in, but with the Speartech unit, what exactly do I have to save from the third gen engine harness, if anything?
Anyone that has purchased and installed one of Speartech's harness, please chime in!
The speartech harness gives me wires for 1) fuel pump and relay, 2) wires on for the fans, 3) 12v all and switched 12v wires in the cabin with fuse block and OBD2 port.

I though about putting the battery in the driver side holes so it can be closer to the alt. And then run a cable from the back of the alt to the starter.
