Shock Factor

So, im curious as to who had some experience with the shock factor on the streets in their LSx swapped car? You know, those "theoretical" red light stares, drop jaws after some throttle action and the "WTH is in that thing?!" look that im sure alot of you have gotten...

I'm one of maybe 5 or 6 in the surrounding cities with a 3rd gen bird (that is driveable at least) and probably only one of 2 (1ADan is the only known member close by) with an LSx 3rd gen, so i get alot of shocked drivers of other "performance" orientated cars.

I am referring to other drivers that do NOT know about your swap...

no worries man, i think im puttin mine under the knife again, either a turbo installation on the 5.3 or replacing the 5.3 with an L92. Most likely gonna be the turbo but i dont think it should eat up too much time if i piece all the components together over winter for a quick spring installation, ready for the summer abuse.

Re: Shock Factor

I love cars that are unexpected. Best one I've ever owner for "shock factor" was an '89 Conquest crankin 300hp and gutted out. Nobody knew what it was or what it was packin. Just a strange Star Trek lookin 80's beater. I would always get nice Porsche comments. Best one was where some kid was hangin out of the passenger side of his buddies stang trash talkin me at a light telling me my car was a POS. We lined um up, the stang took an instant 2 cars. The quest built boost in 2nd, and next thing they saw was taillights and angry super 16g turbo whir. At the next light the kid was all excited cursing and askin WTF my car was and what was under the hood. I told him a 3 cylinder and he just told me that MFer is fast!

Re: Shock Factor

I get alot of looks, mostly because the SC sounds like armageddon under the hood

At car shows I get alot of double takes and kids crawling up inside the engine bay trying to see how I did it

Re: Shock Factor

I pulled a couple cars on a supercharged 5.0 Fox on the highway and the guy tried yelling across the lane afterwards what the H my car has under the hood. I just smiled and took off down the road.

I am kind of a people watcher, I love taking it to shows and popping the hood and just sitting back away from the car to watch reactions. At one time I heard a couple of younger guys walking towards it and one said a comment along the lines of "these 3rd gens are slow as crap", then when they got closer his friend goes "not this one, that's an LS2!"

Re: Shock Factor

I had a couple old guys walk by looking at the car down at G14

"Those factory non-AC 3rd gens are getting hard to find" noting my AC delete box. They totally missed the LSx swap. That was before the blowers

Re: Shock Factor

I love this thread

I've shocked MORE then enough people, but then again I don't have an LSx swap.

My car doesn't look like anything special. I've dusted more then my fair share of high end cars. Supercharged 5.0L Foxbody's, turbo'd Honda's and the like...but some of the best reactions are when they see my engine.

"Hey man, aren't you worried about the engine overheating by not having a thermostat in there?"

They do it ALL the time since I have a modified Edelbrock Victor Jr SBC intake manifold on my LT1. LT1's have the thermostat and waterneck on the top of the waterpump, not on the intake like on SBC's but since I have a SBC manifold I still have the provision for the thermostat boss on the intake. My car is all about performance, not winning car shows

I just reply with "You'd think I'd be more worried about coolant spraying all over the place under the hood, wouldn't you?"
