They won't over heat I painted mines and don't get that hot and no issues

Others coils do have heat sinks specifically the truck coils

Thanks man. I'm hoping it will look great and perform well too. I didn't even think about heat being an issue. I have seen others paint them, just not typically in a base/clear fashion, so figured there wouldn't be an issue. Guess I will find out.

I really need to lock down how I wanna position the coils. Originally planned to put them evenly spread, and just run the wires straight down, like the Katech covers do. Now thinking of turning them so the wires point back and tuck the wiring further, or just mount them at the back of the heads out of sight.

Well I made a couple changes to my plans. If you have been following any of the other threads on this page, then you know what these are.

For those that don't. These are the Hooker Blackheart series of stainless LS swap headers for 82-92. They are 409SS, 1 7/8" primaries, and don't compromise ground clearance. I will be using almost their entire set up for this, except for their conversion pan, which will/may require me to notch the kmember for pan clearance.

I replaced a very nice set of Hawks Stainless Works headers for these and I got to say I'm impressed with the quality. The inside of each primary has been smoothed and sanded to provide no interuptions in flow. The SW headers had very nice welds, but nothing like this. Can't wait to get the rest of the system.

Are you sure they are 409 SS? I was under the impression that all the blackheart LS headers were 304 SS only...

Dude you are right! I had it backwards. You can get the exhaust in 409ss or 304ss.

How much ground clearance do you think you will gain over the Hawks SS headers? They look really nice. Make sure to post some pics after you install them!

Not really sure since pictures of other peoples installs is all I got to go on, but I would guess from the pics a solid 3/4".

With the BMR K member, I don't have any ground clearance issues with the Hawks/Stainless works 1 7/8 headers. But it also looks like the K member moves the engine up and back so that might help with the clearance. It's the Y pipe that will likely be your low point on the exhaust where it goes under the transmission crossmember.

That might be true with the BMR Kmember. The Hooker true dual exhaust and transmission mount allow the exhaust to tuck enough to really not effect ground clearance at all.... From the pics Holley has posted.

Even on the Holley photos the low point of the exhaust is still where it goes under the transmission crossmember. It still clears well but it is also still your lowest point in the system.

Even with the Hawks T56 crossmember and 3 inch y pipe, my ground clearance with the car lowered won't be any worse than it was with a SBC and stock exhaust routing with the same amount of lowering on the vehicle. I'm mainly looking at the Hooker crossmember for the extra clearance for the fuel and brake lines and the removal of the torque arm from the transmission to the crossmember. If I build another LS swap thirdgen, I will likely use the entire Hooker setup.

What all did you get? Are you using their motor mounts too? I think I'm gonna run their dual with the Kooks mid length and maybe the cross member if it actually bolts up ok.

Basically their complete set up minus pan and fuel line protection. I think their dual set up will get popular quick once more guys start adapting them to other set ups.

Right!

Creative Coating in Windsor is doing them. Paul recommended a place in Englewood, but their pricing was over a $100 more than the local guys... No brainer on that one. Excited to see how they turn out.

This is the Holley Hydra-mat fuel pick up bladder system. I was looking for ways to reduce the fuel slosh in my current 3rd gen tank, and got to reading about these and it seems like a no brainer for what I have been doing with the car. Excited to see how it works out!

They are cool for sure. Kinda pumped at the thought of not needing to keep 1/2 tank of fuel to run an autocross lol!

99-02 tank swap would have done the same. But it really isn't that hard to keep gas in the tank at events. Especially the autocross ones.

99-02 Tank would be an improvement over 3rd gen for the sake of baffles, and pump module cup design, but don't think its an improvement over the hydramat. I'm not running a 4th gen tank so moot point of conversation.

Yeah, it kind of trumps the bucket, but the bucket keeps fuel on the pump too..... I am running those snow mobile pickup pucks in my 73 camaro tank. I have 3 in there, one in each rear corner and one in the middle. I was able to run the tank down to less than half a gallon with the EFI.

I like them! The grip well. I love how the tread design looks. I have heard complaints of tire noise, but I think that is coming from Nancy boys that don't like loud exhaust either. I'm excited to try the Rival S, but that might be phased out as well before I get a chance too.

Are they stopping production on the Rivals? I was going to get some Pilot PS2s but the wider ones in 18s are a no go right now too. Rivals was the next choice but don't seem to do to well in the rain.

The Rival S has rumors that it could be replaced. The first introduced the Rival and in limited supply and quantities, then suddenly introduces the Rival S, and now its getting hard to get your hands on them too. It's only heresay from what I know that it could be being phased out. It wouldn't stop me from buying some if you can get them in the size you need.

Dang, it seems like they just discontinued the KDWs for the Rivals, now Rivals are maybe being fazed out. Tire Rack has the sizes I need and seems to be the only place selling them, only like 10 sizes of the tire still tho. They want tax + shipping + everything else, would rather get the Michelin's but not sure I can wait if my only other option is going bye bye too.

Worried about hydroplaning in the Rivals or I would go ahead and get them.

I rarely have driven my car in rain bad enough that I would be worried about a hydroplane, and I don't have Rivals so I can't really say what would happen. Do you plan on taking your car out in down pours? We have storms here too, but I haven't built my car around the thought that I could get caught in one worse case...?

I wasn't worried about it until it happened with my DRs either. Only goes out on sunny days for the most part, but I'd like to do some out of town shows/Power Tour ect and don't want to trailer. That is really all I'm worried about, getting stuck in it. I'm gonna wait a couple weeks to see if Michelin does another PS2 run, and will probably just pick up the Rivals. I found this site, price about the same as Tire Rack, but no tax, $40 shipping.

I hear you on that. Phils is where I would buy. They have an excellent reputation with the racers. I burned up one of my KDW2's during an Optima event, and was gonna order Rival s from Phils, but ran across a deal on some new KDW2's someone had stock piled.

Re: BADNBLK's 91 Z28 LS1 swap... Long time coming

Well, I have taken a baby step to getting the swap looking more like a swap, than just parts acquisition.... I brought the car to shop! I'm in desperate need of time at this point, but gonna work with what I got. I've got enough other things to make my wife mad haha!

I was able to take a few measurements and try out a couple different things to solidify the measurements and wheel sizes. I put in my order for custom built 3 piece FORGELINE wheels on Monday mornings. It HURT really bad, but I think it will be worth it. Can't wait the 4-5 weeks til I can show them off

Gonna have to extend the stops but worth the loss of steering lock.

No, they fit with no control arm interruption. With a squared 18x11 I would have for sure. That pic of the 295 on the 18x10 fits lock lock with only tire rub, due to my ride height which can be changed easy.

Interesting. Care to share the backspacing or offset? Maybe earlier Z's came with shorter stops?

You have a truly awesome looking ride

I honestly feel that nobody should ever go off someone elses posted wheel measurements, as everybody's set up is different. I'm running a Baer Extreme plus brake set up with different hubs and rotor thickness and it could change the whole game for someone else... That being said 6" of BS on the 18x10 clears fine ON MY SET UP

Thank you sir! I got wheels turning and a hole in my wallet, so I'm hoping to have a few other little touches that make people say WOW
