Fall Pictures of my '83 Z28

I posted a bit about it over in the 82-84 thread, but I picked this car up about 2 months ago from the original owner. The car has 20,000 miles on it. I just spend the last month cleaning it up and doing a whole bunch of maintenance to get it reliable. This past weekend I went on a 200 mile cruise with my Car Club, and the car ran perfectly for the first time. It put a smile on my face all day cruising along the back-roads with 35 other cars including two fellow ThirdGen'ers. The next day, I went out for a little spin and took some new photos of the car.

Here are the results, and I've also thrown in a picture of our Group at our lunch stop (Cornwall Pub in Rockport, Ontario). Hope you all enjoy!

Beautiful car. I love seeing early Z28s in such nice shape.

Dude you have no idea how lucky you are to have a early thirdgen in pristine shape like that.

Even if you say you do, you dont.

Now post up some pics of that interior with those LS seats.

That's a nice car. What color is that? Looks like a very dark brown in the pics.

I must also compliment your club member's taste in cars. That is a very nice selection.

Hey guys, thanks for the compliments. The car is actually Charcoal Grey, but it's pretty funny you mention brown since there have been a bunch of guys at various Cruise Nights that have asked me if it's brown after seeing it in person. In the direct sunlight it looks completely different, I think it's because of the metalflake in the paint.

Here ya go guys...some (crappy) pictures of my LS interior. It's wet, gross, and cold outside this morning otherwise I'd have pulled it out of the garage. Don't mind the towel and tripod, that was from the other day...

If it clears up, I'm going to take one of the other two out for a small photoshoot...so stay tuned for those photos too (can I post 4th Gen pics on here? Hahah)

Sad too, it's going to storage tomorrow...

I am floored at the condition of that car. I would kill for that interior scheme in my 85.

Its gonna seem like a long winter while thats in storage lol.

You could always turn your interior into a "LS Clone" car...although I'm sure it would cost a fortune.

Long winter for sure, but oh well...more time to sit on Kijiji/eBay finding another one.

Re: Fall Pictures of my '83 Z28

Sad day, took two of the four cars over to storage today. First pic, just leaving the house, second picture is of my buddy "helping out" by taking the 95 Z28 (secretly loving it I'm sure, LOL), and lastly the two of them tucked away for the next 6 months. The IROC & Truck (non GM ) go later this week.

It is a sad day, but it would be even sadder if you drove it in the winter and had salt all over it.

Imagine the feeling you get taking the cover off of it on that first nice spring day.

Trust me, Motown has it right...I'd rather store them for 6 months, than be forced to drive it in the crap we get up here. It isn't the snow that does the damage, it's the salt they litter the road with with even the tiniest bit of snow.

That last bit is what gets me. Its the same here in Detroit. One inch of snow or snow that hits the ground and melts, and you can see at least 2 salt trucks in your line of sight.

But its good to take pics like you did, so you can look at them all winter until spring arrives.

You're tired.

This is a Canadian car, so KM/H on the left (white letters, up to 140), and MPH on the right(orange letters, up to 85) .

Re: Fall Pictures of my '83 Z28

Wow...good eye. It's actually a torque converter lockup switch. The previous owner installed it, and it's one of the few things that pisses me off (the location). Next year I'm either going to remove it all together, or hide it since I don't have a use for it. Everything else is bone stock, then there is this ugly switch sticking out where the ashtray cover used to be (can't shut/hide it)

Looks to be an easy fix. Just pop off the shifter bezel and throw that switch and plate inside the console and put the bezel back on. Then just pick up an ashtray from the classifieds.

Re: Fall Pictures of my '83 Z28

Thanks for the bump, and of course the compliments. You guys might be the only group who understands this car guys logic, I ALMOST bought another 3rd Gen a couple weeks back...some of you Ontario guys might have seen it. 1985 Z28, 100% original (like my 84), 55,000 miles, original owner, all documentation. He kept dropping the price, to the point where I imagine he'd have taken $3,000 for it. Was so close to snapping it up, but decided to save my coin for something different...I really want to find a 2nd Gen next I think...or a C5 Z06.

Back to the 84 though, it's been in storage for a month now...along with it's other sisters. It's too bad I took them so early, we had another 2-3 weeks of decent weather. Got our first snowfall earlier last week...which quickly melted a day layer...but of course the roads are now plastered with salt.

Picture of the 1985 that was for sale.

What I want to know is...how are you finding all of these mint thirdgens up in Canada? Most thirdgens dont look that good down south!

And to think you almost bought that mint 85 on top of the other camaros you have...I envy your deep pockets.

Believe it or not, I only look in my home province of Ontario..and even that I don't like to go much further than 2 hours from home. There are probably deals all across the country...

Even though most guys at the local car shows and cruise nights think I'm nuts, I love having a choice every time I open the garage. Say you were given $100,000 to spend on classic cars however you want. In my case I would rather have ten $10,000 drivers, vs one or two amazing quality cars. Most guys up here though, seem to be the opposite.

Haha, no joke I've had about 3 people ask me if it's brown. Here's a good picture, where I'd say there is a bit of brown in there.

Thanks for some beautiful pictures - both the car and the backgrounds. My third gen-only screensaver folder just grew again! Even if I can't drive a third gen during the day, I can look at them at work.

I'll check the car in the next couple days as I currently have it stored offsite.
Thank you

WOW @Spd-Kilz!!! That is one AWESOME '83 Z28! I hope that when I get finished with my '83 CrossFire it will at least come somewhere close to being able to look nearly that immaculate! I love your interior, very nice. Your '87 IrocZ looks pretty sweet also. I, as well, have 2 third gens. Besides my CrossFire Z, I also have a '87 IrocZ! These cars are so much fun, long live the third gens!! I plan to put a build thread on here for my CrossFire car, I already have her engine pulled out. I'm down right now for a couple months from foot surgery, but can't wait to get back on the CrossFire build. I didn't see any engine bay pictures, do you have some you can post?

Thanks for the nice words. I sadly don't get to enjoy the car as much as I'd like. I keep pretty detailed records of gas fillups, mileage, repairs etc and over the last 4-5 years I've averaged around 125-150 miles per year...taking into account the car is stored 6 months of the year for winter. With the other two (87 IROC and 95 Z28) it just doesn't get out as much as I'd like. Just had the car re-appraised last week and was pretty happy with the outcome.

Here is a photo of the engine bay (amongst others). Nothing fancy...just your plain jane stock 305. Needs a bit of a cleanup but the car has some weird tar-like undercoating I'm reluctant to try and remove.

A gorgeous '83. One of top early cars of this forum. And one of one that I've ever seen with that color combination.
