Very cool build! Glad to see someone else still has faith in the stock vortec heads. Also, I have been following this thread since the beginning as well. Just following from afar!

Thanks, I have no money into the castings other then the valve guides which were about 140$ The valves and springs while pricey(almost 1500$...) I would have bought regardless of the castings. So the way I look at it is I have a pretty potent street head for not alot invested.

Looking really good, lots of new parts, I have not been around so I have not seen all the progress and parts. On a side note my car will be on the back burner, I lost my summer house in NJ, took in 5 feet of water on the first floor, so I will be dealing with that for awhile, damm Sandy

Yea it does, but at least I am not displaced like so many people, it is a PIA dealing with it all, looks like you are making good progress. Do you have any pics of the body work?

Usually I'm covered in dust while doing bodywork so I don't take a lot of pics. There will be more to come though.

Hey man just wanted to say epic build! cant wait to see it finished. I had a question though. Did you custom mount the GTA plate on your delete bracket or did it already have holes? Any mods to the plate for it to fit? Id like to put a Z28 one on my car. Thanks.

Nice build man!! I own a 86 IROC/Z28 also, haven't checked the VIN, no wonderbar, but big IROC door stickers. I got mine for cheap 650$. I threw a motor out of a 2000 cadilac escalade in and couldn't be any happier. Your car is going to be a milllion times better than mine!! Its nice to see im not the only one out there who has the sickness of never having enough parts to put on a car. The funny thing is out of all those parts youve put on the one i want the most is the hood latch(and hinges). Right now i have a fiberglass hood that has hood pins. PITA!!!! Everytime i want to work on it have to pull the hood. Won't steal your thread, keep up the good work!!!!!

Interesting build.
What caught my eye was that you're from Edmonton. I spend a bit of time there visiting my daughters and would like to make the drive (again) this summer in my 86 Sport Coupe. The intention is to make a few passes at Castrol Raceway. It would be interesting to see how it performs at the higher elevation. There's just enough room for luggage, golf clubs and slicks!
Your progress is excellent from what I can see. I hope you get your car on the road soon.
Maybe we'll cross paths in the summer. Look for the Ontario plates!

I bought the AC delte bracket it with it on there, it was custom mounted and appears to have been very easy, drill some holes, tap em and bolt it on. I flipped it upside down since I dont have a GTA.

Re: My 1986 Z-28 build thread *PIC HEAVY*
It was literally a bolt in deal, using the moroso bracket to bolt it to the head, It lined up perfectly in the pocket for the air pump, along with belt alignment. It was a total fluke that it all worked out. The only thing I had to modify was the stock serp bracket, I had to open up the bottom side for clearance on the fitting, and shorted up one of the mounting bosses because it shares the same bolt hole as the moroso bracket. Overall very simple. Emblems came from hawks thirdgen parts

FINALLY! an update on the car.
Car is ready for high build primer, Once I get it blocked out again it will be ready for paint. The plan is to spray the primer pretty quick as I would love to have paint on the car by the end of january.
More parts arriving aswell...
Brake hoses on the rear end.

Re: My 1986 Z-28 build thread *PIC HEAVY*
For me, there's something about collecting a pile of new parts (or old parts for that matter) and them squeezing them into a project in the off season (or when my shop is warm enough to work in!). It doesn't take long to blow through a few grand and more that's for sure. I'm well past 25k in my Coupe but that includes a couple of fresh short blocks, new heads twice (still have the old Vortecs), transmissions, rear axles, etc. etc. I don't have a lot of the high dollar parts I see that you're accumulating but you tend to have to replace a lot of stuff after the driving miles pile up.
Now dropping 10 grand all at once on a show stopping paint job....that's a tough one. I deliberately shopped around for a good looking roller, one that I wouldn't have to redo for a few years. I've been driving this chassis around for a couple of seasons now and it's ready for the body shop. Yikes!
I'll be watching your paint progress with interest.
Keep up the good work.

Re: My 1986 Z-28 build thread *PIC HEAVY*
I guess theres something to be said about living in fall river massachusetts. I don't dare spend a dime on the paint job because you are gauranteed to get in an accident, fender bender, or get dings and dents in parking lots. Never mind the keys that jealous crack heads scrape up the side because instead of buying a car they buy drugs. I just bought a 2002 dodge ram, in almost perfect condition and i already have a dent in the door. Less than 2 weeks old for me!!!! I have a car cover for the camaro but i don't want to cover it up because then it just says "STEAL ME" I cant wait to move to a decent area, but then ill have to start painting my car LOL So for now I get to spend money on GO FAST parts and the like. Seeing a build like this one though makes me want to have my car be nice, and reminds me I was supposed to have finished my buddys 69 firebird!!! DOH!!!

Cool stuff I have never even seen before too!
She is coming together very nice man. Glad to see you building every piece just the way you want it, its turning out to be a wicked ride! Your quality and workmanship is top notch, just like the quality that comes out of your shop, very nice to see.
We'll have to hook up this summer so I can get a better look, I will be heading up your way to see how my LS1 swap runs at Castrol. You can teach me your body work and paint tips.

Dynoed the engine saturday morning, I an happy with the results, 473HP and 487 ft-lbs of tq, It made over 420 ft-lbs of tq at 3000 RPM and carried it to 6000. here is a vid of the last pull

What was your peak rpm for hp and torque?
Do you know what your cranking pressure is?
Similar recipe to my engine with 335, RHS Vortecs, 224/230/110 XFI roller, 10.25:1, carbed.
Just curious.

Also got the front tires mounted on the wheels. The tires are MT et fronts 26"x4.5"-15's

Got the rear end all finished up last night, The e brake was a total pain to put together but it's done.
