Geez Charlie. I didn't know you had a pilot's licence!
Let's see. Based on your reaction time, you'd still fly by me at the stripe with about a half second to spare. (Just messin' with ya)
Question: How do you race at Castrol on a Tuesday afternoon? You must be well connected.
Well done. When will you be out next? I'd like to see this beast in person.

I wish I had been there. Maybe next time. I'll be out of town for the next couple of weekends and also have some modifications to make to my own ride (fuel pump, timing) but hope to be out again by the middle of August.
With any luck, I can catch up to you then.
Well done.
P.S. Where do guys cruise in this town?

All the required components for the brake conversion showed up today. I will likely start on the install friday night.
Racecraft spindles
Wilwood front brakes
Billet aluminum front lug nuts and required strut spacers from racecraft
ALSO, picked up a brand new pair of AFCO big gun rear coil overs that I will install this winter to attempt to shave some more time off the 60 foot. the car currently has Strange Double adjustable shocks and stock rear springs.

Re: My 1986 Z-28 build thread *PIC HEAVY*
Engine is out and a bunch of winter upgrades are happening.
Some of these include:
- Bigger 66mm wastegates
- Dart little M block
- New crank, rods and pistons
- Motor plates
- relcoating a bunch of things and cleaning up the engine bay
- Powdercoating and cleaning up some of the charge piping
- Holley touchscreen to replace all the gauges
- Magnafuel Pro outlaw 1000 mechanical fuel pump with waterman cable at the back of the car
- 35 spline axles and new MW spool
- Narrowing rear end 1" per side and switching to big ford housing ends
- Aerospace rear brakes
- Double beadlock champion 15x10 wheels
- New K-member with the rack moved up and forward ( Old k-member is bent from the wheelie)
- Wheelie skis
- Belly pan
- Add another scavenge stage to dry sump
- A bunch of weight reduction (goal is 3400-3450lb race weight)
- Possibly a cage upgrade to a 25.5 7.50 cert
- Holley dominator ECU to log a bunch of additional things in the car each pass ( DS speed, trans line PSi, convertor charge PSI, water PSI, trans temp, back pressure psi, oil temp)
- 1 piece fiberglass front bumper that is fastened with DZUS fasteners for quick install/removal ( makes loading on a trailer easier or fixing intercooler couplers that blow off etc...
Pulled the engine apart...
Bent all 8 Callies Compstar I beam rods. Cant say I am surprised. I pushed these way past the advertised power rating.
Bought a set of callies Ultra H beam rods to replace them
New dominator ECU...
Used set of Precision turbo 66mm wastegates from local Pro mod racer Jim Bell
New magnafuel Pro outlaw 100 mechanical pump.

Re: My 1986 Z-28 build thread *PIC HEAVY*
Front motor plate and mid plate arrived, got a plastic dummy block and hope to get them mocked into the car once I am finished with the fire wall.
Removed everything from the firewall, along with the old filler panels. Going to weld up any remaining holes in the firewall, then bodywork it smooth. First though, I need to strip all the dynamat from the inside of the fire wall. All the remaining sound deadener inside the car is getting removed in an attempt to get some more weight out of the car.
Gutted all the old wiring from under the dash, once the firewall is done, I will mount the new ECU, Leash Electronics relay board, Boost controller and billet Map sensor for boost controller. Then I will start to re-wire the car. Hoping to have this done and have the car ready for the engine again for the end of January.

Quick update...
Pulled the transmission apart.
Looks ok, band was burnt up, and the high gear clutches were starting to show some heat and the pack clearance was to big.
Bought some new upgraded parts for it to try and improve it a bit and help it handle some more power.
Sonnax pin guided servo w/ dual ring servo and upgraded spring.
TCI pro x gerotor pump and Pro-x ringless input shaft
new sonnax heavy duty wide band
Still waiting on some more parts, changing out the high gear clutches and steels for some kolene steels and red alto frictions in an attempt to get the pack clearance from 0.120" to 0.070"-0.080" (8 clutch hub)
Also tore down the remainder of the engine, the plan was to upgrade most of the shortblock this winter but due to economic downturn and our shi**y canadian dollar, thats not happening. Engine is going back together with new rods and pistons, rebuilt lifters and new gaskets, rings, bearings and belt for the belt drive.
I magged the crank and checked it for straightness/sizing and it was perfect, same goes for the block, main caps showed signs of fretting and I can tell they were bouncing around, but the sizing is perfect (within 0.0001 of when I built the engine)

Re: My 1986 Z-28 build thread *PIC HEAVY*
Those pictures were from an event called Street Machine Weekend, I finished the car around 4am and was on the road for a 5 hour drive south at 9am, beat the car relentlessly all weekend and other than a shredded tensioner pulley and belt, it never missed a beat. Friday nights they have a 850 car controlled cruise, Saturday is a 100 foot shootout as shown above, and Saturday night we go out street racing. Overall a tiring but super fun weekend.
Gotta love the beadlocks, ran the 100 footer on 275 pro radials, then saturday night switched them out for some 28 x 10.5 hoosiers for some street action.

Took the car to the track on Friday night after thrashing to sort out all the little bugs on thursday night.
First pass the car went 9.24, this was the second pass.
Drove the car home, stopped at a buddys on the way home, went to start the car to leav and the battery was dead. alternator had apparently died and I drove it most of the way home on the charge in the battery.
Charged it over night at his place, drove it back to the shop and celebrated my new alternator by doing this.

Re: My 1986 Z-28 build thread *PIC HEAVY*
When I put the 5.3 in the car this year it was more of a joke than anything. Lots of guys around me have put boost on stock 5.3 but not many on a proven chassis.
I fully expected to grenade this thing, along with many others this season. But after beating on it for 4-5 months and probably 3000 hard miles, it hasn't missed a beat. Saw 35psi boost on more than a few occasions aswell at 7700RPM. This engine has more than proven itself and will be retired this winter but kept as a spare. lol
A post about the new engine will be made soon.

Re: My 1986 Z-28 build thread *PIC HEAVY*
So using a bunch of stuff I had laying around, aswell as some parts I picked up from a friend that was to good of a deal to pass up I decided to build an engine this winter. My plan was to make the switch to an aluminum gen IV 5.3 but that quickly changed.
Gen IV 6.0L block and stock crank
Picked up these trickflow 220’s from a friend. When originally built by trickflow they had fairly small valve seats that left approx. 0.040” of aluminum between the valve seats. After some considerable abuse in a turbo car this became a hot spot and melted out on all 8 chambers. The plan is to put bigger interlocking valve seats in and 90% of the damage will be cut out.
