Did some detailing to the Trans Am (Many Pics)

So i have seen alot of Firebirds and Camaros with the side moldings taken off and i really like the way it looked so yesterday I removed mine and the pinstriping. I also broke out the high speed buffer and did the whole car, the hood and the front bumper where in really bad shape. I got a little life out of both of them hood still has some cloudy spots and the bumper has no clear coat left but at least it looks blue now.

old pics of hood and bumper:

And here is the molding and pinstripe:

Now many pics of the Detailed car

Pretty amazing clean up job. If it looks half as good in real life as in the pics, you have a great looking car.

It does

But like i said the hood does still have some clouds and the bumper has no clear coat so when you see it up close its cloudy under that shine.

Re: Did some detailing to the Trans Am (Many Pics)

I used a high speed buffer on the whole car with a chemical compound called Finesse then a cleaner from McGuire and finally waxed it all with carnuba wax. There are quite a few scratches in the paint so eventually i will need a re-paint but for now since i dont have any money i am trying to make it look good with what i got.

I know it needs to be lowered that will probably be my next mod, i am just not sure how i will get the back to come down without it bouncing off the tire. It doesnt stick out alot its actually lined up with the fender and i have seen quite a few members that lowered theres down close to the tire with no problem.

Thanks again for all the nice comments just thought i would share and show everyone that even faded paint still has some life in it. Just got to work it out.

Wow!! Def got some life outta that paint! Very nice paint and wheel combo.

Could You post a place I could get that Finesse? And what kinda high speed buffer you used? Ive got a little cloudiness on my roof and ive tried a couple off the shelf waxes and polishes at auto zone on my orbital buffer, they help but I think I need to step it up to a high speed buffer and a better compound.

How did it buff out the chips in the headlight covers and front of the hood? or is that just drops of wax or something?

great great job. best thing to do to your car is put in some elbow grease. and you get results like that. awesome. can you get better pics of the hood? maybe from up top.

The Finesse i got some time ago i got it from the local paint shop here (finesse is a chemical compound as opposed to those gritty ones out there), and my high speed buffer is old as hell its a snap on i got when i worked a dealership in the detail dept. Only advise i can give is to keep the buffer as flat as possible and dont burn the the paint.

I wish it did, but they are still there just harder to see now that everything is cleaned up.

I will go take a pic of the hood so you can see that it still has some cloudy spots and the bumper needs clear coat badly. Of course if i sanded them both down and recleared them it would look awesome, except for the mentioned rock chips .

Re: Did some detailing to the Trans Am (Many Pics)

Here is the hood picture, you can really see where its cloudy and by no means perfect. But it does look 100 times better then before, its blue and shiny lol. I think if i used a more aggressive compound i could have gotten deeper and better results, but being this is original paint i didnt want to take the chance of cutting to much and burning the paint.

Looks familiar

Name: S6002652.jpg
Views: 59
Size: 111.6 KB

I was going to go back to a black car...because I REALLY miss my black 87. But Im starting to come around on the blue/silver. I need a re-paint bad. My paint is failing all over the place. My bumper isnt quite as bad as yours, but its on its way. Most of the clear is flaking off.

I would REALLY like more details on how you managed to get that bumper looking even remotly blue. Was all of your clear 100% gone? Or was it flaking like mine? No matter what i do, it shows up white. I have a porta-cable buffer, but no high speed rotary. I havent tried it yet on this car.

Looks great!

Re: Did some detailing to the Trans Am (Many Pics)

Yes it was flaking off horribly bad, so i scrapped what i could off. The high speed buffer is key but without clear and if it stays in the sun long it will fade again. My hood is starting to cloud up a little more, I need to put in some more time on it and get a cutting pad for my buffer. When i get some extra money i will most likely sand them both down and just reshoot the clear in the garage. That should hold me till i can afford a full paint job.

Thank you all for the comments, and ghettocruiser I like your car =)
