since both cars were hard tops when leaving the factory, I'd almost bet its just a strength or crumple zone update to the body from somewhere between 86 to 89. I'd think it would be cheaper to have only 1 floor pan die.
The black car has C&C aftermarket T-tops.
I would as well, got it now, I was confused on which car had the C&C tops in it.
Front suspension and cross member are out! Been painting some suspension pieces also. The rest of my parts should be here this week, my favorite part of building cars is when the new parts arrive

I've been painting my suspension parts as they come in. I forgot to get some pictures of them . But I primed my rearend, seat brace is drilled off, windshield is removed, and I cleaned up some spots in my engine bay with a wire wheel. It seems like the spot welds tend to corrode a little. Depending on my turbo setup I just went ahead and cleaned my battery tray up and sprayed it with some rust converter after wiring wheeling it. Next step is to sand it and get some paint on it!
The engine bay is almost done! I used about 2.5 cans of single stage, needs a coat of clear though. My dad went in and seam sealed a few places, definitely takes some patience

Scored some 2007 Grand Prix GXP brakes yesterday. 12.7" rotors with PBR calipers. Looks very similar to a base model C6 Corvette? The spindle from the GXP seems like it'd almost work if we could figure out what to use for struts. Surprisingly the stock 3rd gen strut is scary close but wont quite work. I think a 3rd gen spindle modified for standard C6 Corvette brakes would work also. But if I can figure a strut out it'd be neat to try the aluminum spindles

What is the measurement from center of the hub to the center of the tie rod hole?
What doesn't fit with the stock strut? thickness of the spindle where strut mounts or bolt hole distance/size issue?
What are you doing about transferring the Visible & Hidden VINs?
I'll just keep my cowl for the visible vin. Is there a hidden one stamped in the frame or something of that nature?

The bolt pattern is around 4.53 if I'm remembering correctly. But a 07 Corvette hub is 4.75 and a 3 bolt like the gxp. Thinking that may possibly work out. Sorry if my measurements aren't perfect
Got word today there were 2 more accidents where I wrecked that same night. The city finally put salt on the road that night.
Cant blame the city. These cars dont belong on salted winter roads.....one the salt tears em right up and two they dont handle the conditions well. Mine hibernates november til may. Good luck with everything. The turbo 5.3 looks saweeeet! The girlfriend is a keeper too for sure! Lol

Yeah they don't belong in bad conditions but there wasn't really any need for salt that day. It had been raining non stop for the past couple days and pushed water out of the field and onto the road. Got cold enough to make a slippery mess, that road really sucks. I had to drive it one winter and it actually did really good and was fun! And thanks man!
This past month has been busy so I haven't had a chance to update. I got some parts painted up and the rear end coated with POR 15. I need to order a diff cover with bearing supports next. Been coating some other pieces with POR 15 also just to ensure they won't rust again. Other than that the car should be ready to be clipped soon! I also got another Formula hood in better shape, forgot a picture though
Sorry if I scared you guys Everything is measured and we started making the cuts that really count. Drilled the A pillar skins and rocker skins off, that way we have 3 welds in those areas. You can see we cut tabs in each half of the cars to have a little added strength, plus once its welded up and the seat brace is back on you will never know. Doing it all like this wouldn't even need sub frame connectors but yes I have a S&W subframe kit for it. Pretty much ready to weld the to cars halves together and then its all down hill from there! Also 4 years ago today I got the car, little bit of a transformation I think
I don't want to upset you here but I believe most law enforcement will view this as you attaching a donor back half to the new cowl rather than your adding a new cowl to your original back half. The VIN is tied to the car the cowl came from and not your original black car.
I'm using my old cowl in the new firewall. They can view it however they want, I'm using my rear half, rear floor, roof, pillars, and cowl. Just adding a new front section of floor, firewall, frame, etc.
We made a milestone today lol. Got it in the clamps and tacked together. Me and my girlfriend (who had a wild hair apparently) got it up there by ourselves.
Rebuilt my door hinges and put both doors on tonight to make sure everything fits alright before we start welding it. Put a fender on for fun too. Lastly I picked up a set of GTA Ultima seats for dirt cheap
The 34mm sway bar will be perfect if you up the spring rates.

Plate not shown, but you can find it. This will help eliminate guess work with spring ride height w/5.3, and a great performance enhancement. It's a lot of work with the k-member in the car. Once it's out - a piece of cake.
Thanks everyone for the support. I haven't had time to post here so I figured it was time I updated this. The pillars are welded up, floor is welded completely, rockers are welded up also. Got some short strand fiberglass filler on the pillars and rockers for now. Front Wheel wells are painted/undercoated and the freshly powder coated k member is reinstalled along. Notched for a/c also. Haven't seen anyone do a turbo 5.3 with a/c so I may possibly be the first with a turbo ls 3rdgen with a/c? Got some new goodmark quarter panels since it could really use both to be done right. The passenger side had a Earl scheib patch job that makes me wonder what their reason for even patching it was, cause it's horrendous. Sent my spindles off to bigbrakeupgrade to have them modified for the C6 corvette brakes. We are cutting the floor to add some custom subframe connectors too. Shouldn't be too much longer till it's rolling!
Haven't had much time to work on it but I haven't gave up. Got some front suspension put in minus springs, and started cleaning wheel wells for por 15 and raptor liner. The GXP brake calipers I got fit perfect on the spindles I got modified for C6 Standard brakes, just need the corvette brake rotor since the GXP has a different offset rotor.
Reason I haven't got much done (4 inch Lift, now cylinder 8 has no compression)
I got started painting the bottom side of my car tonight. Using some semi gloss black POR 15. 2 coats so far, may go over it again with one more but we will see. I just wanted to get a few major areas knocked out. It seems like the "e coat" or whatever didn't protect much. I had a few areas I hit with the wire wheel and it kept flaking off. Had a little bit of surface rust under it. Can't wait to see it after its raptor lined!
Ooh...not nice surprises. But now's the time to find and fix 'em.

Seems like I've been busy the past 2 weeks but I'm back on track. I ordered quite a few brake parts and have been multi tasking between the front brakes and patching the wheel wells. I ordered POR 15 caliper paint, C6 Corvette slotted/drilled rotors, hoses, banjo bolts/washers, ceramic pads, and a steering gear box seal kit. I'll probably end up going with a astro van steering shaft. Not to far off from rolling again, I need to find a 4th gen F body LS1 gas tank, and figure out what fuel pump to run. Getting closer!
Got one patch almost done tonight, turned out pretty good for the first patch panel I've made. Only required a hammer, sandbag, and a 2x4! I think it turned out pretty nice
