Optima's Search for the Ultimate Street Car race series

Not sure how many of you follow the TV show or have paid attention to the series for the past few years, but it coming to Pike Peak International Raceway on Aug 8th and 9th.

http://driveusca.com/events/pikes-pe...-raceway-2015/

Myself and my buddy Shaun (Nortz89) will be participating in the Novice classes, and look forward to representing the CO Third gens, and Third gens in general.

For anyone looking for something to do that weekend we love to have our thirdgen buddies come out and cheer us on. This is a televised event and could get yourself on TV, and above that it will be an action packed event with some of the biggest names in pro-touring, euro, imports tuners.

I know this is an old post from last year, but how did it go? I only ask because I did a search on here for the Optima event, as I am thinking about doing it this May at NJMP in the Novice GTV class just for fun. What was your experience like?

I can tell you it will be the funnest driving event you have ever been involved with, and meet some of the best people you have ever met. For me and Shaun it was a big learning experience and I have confidence I will come back this year swinging a bigger stick. I ran the novice class, and really that means nothing until you get to the Road racing section where you are not allowed to pass. You spend most of your time on the track running with the big boys anyway. We competed fairly well for first event, and the level of competition we were against. I lost a tire and was unable to compete in the road course section which hurt my points severely.

It would be really nice to see them offer the 1/2 price discount to first timers again this season, but I don't think it is gonna happen as fast as some of the tracks are filling up. So a $500 buy in for a weekend of fun can be steep before you add in all the other associated costs... Its worth it!

Best tips: Talk to everyone! Ask questions! Take the opportunity for track instructors to ride along and give their advise on your driving.

Good luck bro. Take tons of pics. Get a gopro, or cell phone dash mount for videos. The PPIR event has 3 thirdgens so far. I got a couple other buddies on the fence too. Maybe you need to come out to CO

Cannot wait! So not sure if Bruce Raymond reached out to you yet, but how does "3rd gen showdown on the Peak" sound to you....?

I haven't heard from Bruce, but he'd probably reach out to Jimi Day for something like that. I'll see you guys out there!

I was going through the 2015 Roster and found that Shaun and I were the only two 3rd gen Camaro's and Valerie with the only 3rd gen Firebird. So Pikes Peak has already doubled the 3rd gen Camaro love, before Bruce gets in, and Valerie is talking about coming making the trek up. Hopefully we can get more guy from this board on the roster with all the 3rd gen love that is going down in CO

Re: Optima's Search for the Ultimate Street Car race series

I think James Shipka is working on a third gen to possibly run this season. We've had one or two other third gens over the years-

Shipka has his 89 registered for PPIR, so I'm really excited to see how he turns that ex race car back into a street car. Those Swedes bird is a nasty tire shredding machine!
