well i just got the car a few weeks ago and from what i could tell it has a fuel leak under the driver side door and when it starts it dies out it .won't stay started unless you are giving it gas ? when it idles it dies? maybe the carb? the exhaust has a strong smell. that's about all i know.

his dad owns a shop

and I like food slightly better than mcd's and 40ozs haha. Although miller lite is nice.

well I'm not sure where whiting is, but is this your daily driver or just a fun car to work on? I'd do a tune-up first and see where that gets you, and the carb may be out of adjustment. The fuel leak....is it coming from the filter under the drivers side or...? Digital camera pics work well in explaining things too.

alright well if you could get pics of where the fuel leak is at that would be a good start. As for the other issues, what rpm do you have to keep it at to keep it running? is there a block mounted fuel pump or in tank? It'll be easy to see on the passenger side lower section of the engine block. Will have 2 lines come off it, one will follow up to the carb.

I know that. I have been to your house before. I was just trying to give you a perspective of where this poor guy that needs your help is. It would not take me 40 minutes to get to your house from jays. Are you driving that truck still? It must be slow.

May be able to help you out. Do you have tools, because all mine are at work, so I would have to bring them home. Also, would like to see a pic of where the leak is.

From the looks of the pics it looks like the LG4 that is in my '86. Are your fuel lines rusted out? I had that problem with that same engine. It leaked Steve in the same spot. Put in new fuel lines, viola, problem solved. Can't remember but isn't the fuel filter in the same area? One of these two could explain the smell.

i would like to get it running and fix it up to drive in the summer. as far as budget goes there is no time limit so if i can gradually fix it and maybe have it done by the time i'm 90 and retired (joking). it will be a challenge but i'm up for it the body is decent will need paint later. i will take pics

thanks
