Ohio and Pennsylvania People

Alright everyone, I'm wanting to get some ideas as to who from Ohio and Pennsylvania will be going to the Thirdgen Nationals '03. I myself am going, whether or not I have my winter repairs done on my Camaro.

I'm from eastern Ohio, a small town named Orangeville. I'd like to arrange a caravan of guys to drive over together (in case someone breaks, runs out of gas, etc.) Because I'm the farthest east in Ohio, I figure we can set the meeting place near one of the highways leading into Pennsylvania, where we could meet up with any Penn people who want to caravan.

I'll add updates when I find out more from Mark.

When you reply, please say where you're from, and if you're interested in caravanning.

thanks in advance.

Yeah Harrisburg is pretty much central pa. I'm about 20 minutes from there. Would you guys be coming in the turnpike? If so the carlisle exit is like 5 minutes from my house. The last meet in maryland i went do I went down 83. I'm not sure how you were thinking of going down but if that's the way I could try and get some spots in mind where we could meet up.

i'm not sure. i'd like to take the turnpike over, i figure there would be fuel stops without getting sidetracked, etc.

the turnpike is a little out of the way, but my work's other store is near the ohio turnpike, and where 76 becomes the pa turn pike. i figure we could meet near there, and catch 76 there.

brett, are you on aim? i'm rcguthrie8201

I'm coming from a town in northwest Ohio called Hicksville. I had planned on taking the turnpike, seeing as how I don't know the area at all. Would like to caravan if possible. Planning right now on heading out early Friday morning. Let me know...

Hey, I'm a Harrisburg person, if you guys want, I can figure out some place to meet that's convienent. Something right off of the turnpike and near 83. Actually there is a wendy's and a hotel 2 seconds off the harrisburg 19 exit (turnpike) which might be a good place to meet, and its right on the way to 83.

good deal.

Vice: i'm going to be leaving friday morning most likely. LeftTurn1LE will prolly be caravanning with me from Indiana.

i'll come up with a meeting point soon, seeing as i'm the closest to pennsylvania. i figure on taking i-76 over to harrisburg, and meeting up with the penn people there, as i stated a few posts up.

Spifz: what are the chances of us all meeting in a big parking lot like that? Brett Gutshall posted harrisburg as being an ideal place as it's in the middle of the state, and route 83 goes down to maryland.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? keep everyone posted about this

Just give me an idea of how many cars, I'll find somewhere big enough. If we have a bunch, I'll find a gas station and see if I can get 5 or 10% off. Its not much, but for all you driving from Ohio, a little bit helps I guess.

right now i'm looking at getting all the ohio guys gathered together somewhere close to the ohio and pennsylvania line, near I-76.

from there, we'll meet the pennsylvania guys in harrisburg.

i'll have directions to where i want to gather everyone soon. i'll provide exit numbers, and whatnot. keep your eyes on the thread.

Brett and Spifz:

would you both be willing to look into areas to gather the penn guys? i think it would be good to have two heads working on this, and i'm not familiar with that area of penn.

as far as ohio stuff, i'm going to mansfield this weekend to visit some family. i'll be checking out some meeting places, and see what i find.

Well I guess it all depends how they are going to come in. For instance if they're coming in the turnpike then what exit are they gonna meet us at. If they'd get off at carlisle we could meet at the fairgrounds or somewhere along "The Pike". Or they could run the turnpike right to route 83 and have everyone meet there (though I'm not as familiar with that area). I dunno, just throwing out some ideas here......

Count me in Robert, sorry it took so long to reply.

I am flexible, we can meet wherever the majority is or wherever the best place would be, it will be fine with me. I can leave any day so it doesn't matter to me.

i'm thinking......

how many ohio people are heading over on the ohio turnpike?

because there is the town by the name of newton falls, which is right near the ohio turnpike. it'll be exit 14 to be exact.

there are a few places in the area where everyone could meet up. and from there, we could go through town, and catch I-76 east. anyone familiar with I-76 will know that exit 54 is state route 534, which is the main drag of newton falls.

we'll sort that out very soon

If I go I'll probably be taking the turnpike since its like 3 minutes away from my house. Im right smack in the middle of northern ohio, between Sandusky and Cleveland.

Oh yea, what would be the est travel time? 5-6 hours?

Chuck, from my zip code, it is approx. 7 hours to Elk Neck State Park.

Sandusky is about 2 1/2 hours from me.

Mansfield is about 2 1/2 hours from me.

Hopkins Airport is about an hour to 1 1/2 hours form me, depending on traffic.

robert, i have a couple of possibilities

1. i posted on the milwaukee, and the mich. thread about them meeting us, that would be awesome to have a huge armada of third gens.

2. so far i haven't heard from anybody that is coming from sw oh. or ky. so for now i will continue with the plan of meeting on i-76. otherwise i would meet them near cols. and meet you guys near pittsburgh.

3. i can meet ben (87 formula) in mansfield and continue from there.

4. there is an excellent pizza restaurant on the east side of akron close to kent, if you guys wanted to stop and eat there, its close to 76 (like 5 min.)

as a guesstimate, what time would we be meeting? 1-2 pm ?

mike

robert,

I don't know about Thursday, but if you give me a time and place I WILL be there when you are ready to leave. I may be able to show up Thursday, but I can't commit to that right now. Whatever you guys decide, I'll come up with a way to run with you one way or another.

WEll fellas since this event is late June I'm going to be on my 5,500 miles road trip....

I'm heading from South Florida to Maryland with the southeast caravan group and after the meet, I will be heading to IOWA.....which means that I would be interesting in driving back at least to OHIO or possibly to anybody that lives in Illonois.....

Looks like fun, or are you guys just caravaning there??.......

Just wondering.........

Dayton OH

I'm considering going...only if I can get a friend or someone to go with me. I'll be taking I-70 E (from Dayton) on over to I-95 N in Baltimore....should be the straightest & quickest shot for me.
Maybe I could meet up with the Indiana people before I leave Dayton, since you guys will be coming though Dayton on 70 E.....then maybe we could pick up the Columbus area people, since we will be heading through there as well...
For me this trip will take 9 1/2 hours....not to mention 1,200 round trip miles!

hey roc-z, even though it would be closer to take I-70, just for the sake of a group caravan i am meeting with everyone else east of youngstown. if you want you can meet me here in columbus and head north from there.
just a thought.

If they'd get off at carlisle we could meet at the fairgrounds or somewhere along "The Pike". Or they could run the turnpike right to route 83 and have everyone meet there (though I'm not as familiar with that area). I dunno, just throwing out some ideas here......
hey brett, tell me about the rest stops on the turnpike. also, tell me about the fair grounds.

we're going to leave early friday morning, and take the turnpike. a rest area is fine with me. does the pa turn pike have the big rest areas like ohio does? yanno, there's like 4 or 5 restaurants, and a fuel stop. i figure something like that would be cool.
