Awesome night at the track Friday night!

I know this isn't 3rd gen. related, but I figured that I'd share Friday night's success with some fellow drag racers...

I went out to the track with the Tri Cities Mustang Club last for the friday night street wars and let me tell you the weather was perfect! There was a ton of people out there the other night, so the track stayed pretty slippery from all the inexperienced people driving straight through the water box. Nobody was hooking up all night unless they were on some sticky tires and it ended up costing me in the semi-finals, but anyway...on to the story....

When we first got there I was busy trying to help Amelia get teched and all since it was her first time out and I rode down the track with her. She didn't do too bad and impressed me for it being her first time racing. I forgot to pull the fram air filter off and she still ended up running a traction limited 14.57 with me in the car (an extra 125 lbs) and a couple beginner type mistakes such as shifting too soon and shifting into 5th before the end of the 1/4. She cut a .620 light, which I thought was damn good for a first timer in a 5 speed car. I have no doubt that she can bring that down into the mid 13's with a little more practice and better traction.

After I got out of the car with Amelia I went and pulled my car into the lanes. The first run felt good. The 60' came down to a 2.14 and I manually shifted the AOD on my way to a 13.33 @ 106.4. A new best by .01!! I knew this was going to be a good night to run and just hoped that I didn't mess it up by missing my shift points because with the way the AOD shifts they've got to be precise or else it'll bounce off the rev limiter and kill the run. My next run up I came up and pulled off a 2.13 60' on my way to a 13.29 @ 106.66...awesome! Into the 13.20's on the peg leg rearend!!! After that, traction started to suffer more and more and I never got another full run in anyway because bracket's started and I didn't want to risk breaking out. I made it all the way down into the semifinals before I spun off the line and lost to a guy on Hoosiers by a fender length.

My dad also ran a new best in his auto '01 GT with only welded in magnaflows and a K&N in the stock air box. He clicked off a couple 13.96's and then widdled it down to a 13.94 before finally coming out with a best time of 13.93 on a 13.93 dial in on his way to the quater finals of the bracket class.

Hey Nic, what track did you go to? I thought MIR was closed for the season.

I've been there for a couple of NHRA events and the Fun Ford Event in July of 2000. My friend Dan with tags STAGED, won both bracket races that weekend.

Awesome! Are you going to be out there this year? FFW '00 was really small, last years was about twice as big as '00, and now that FFW and NMRA aren't running the same weekend in '02 it should be twice as big as last years.

My son and I tried to make all the NMRA events but money and time was a problem. He towed the car down to Ga. and qualified 8th in Pure Street with a 11.76 @115. Lost first round. Then we went to WFC-3 and qualified 7th w/11.72 @117. Lost first round, again. The car has gone 11.64 @118 on motor and 10.97 @123 on juice. It is a daily driver with a junkyard motor (190K miles) with AFR heads, Anderson Cam (stock size), Anderson Power Pipe and a few other goodies.

Hopefully we can run some of both circuits next year

Pure street looks like a fun class. It really amazes me what those guys can do with a .500 lift cam. What's your sons name?

My son's name is Greg Novac. If I got all the work done to my car like some of those other guys, I would have the national record for the class which is 11.17. I have an old engine with 190K on it with nothing done to it, all origional stuff except for the cam and heads.
