Event coverage and another nice photo from our last time out at the Spring Classic.
I think its exiting T11, #10 cornering nice and flat.

Very few race tracks can match the cool temps at Laguna Seca in August.
20+ degrees cooler than San Diego.

And then you want to think "why do these idiots buy a house there if they know there's a track?" But the real estate people don't tell them about the track! You have to disclose anything wrong to your knowledge with the house and land themselves but stuff like racetracks and airports don't have to be disclosed.

Re: Camaro road race car.
We had a perfect week at The 2018 Monterey Motorsport Reunion at Laguna Seca.
Car ran awesome all 8 sessions.
My new Crew chief Matt kept the Camaro safe and fast.
Matt is a photographer, so we'll have a a bunch of photos soon.
The morning race was 30 minutes long and after our event photos are ready I will share it.
This video is the final race, the event had gone late so they kept our last race short and sweet.

Re: Camaro road race car.
I saw and photographed this car running at the Pre-Reunion. Missed the actual reunion this year as I went to Pebble Beach.
Your car looked great out there, very beautiful watching it come down the corkscrew.
I preferred the classing last year to this year. Last year was strictly SCCA Trans Am and IMSA GTO cars, so it was Camaros, Mustangs, Nissans, or similar street-bodied tube chassis cars. This year they had those IMSA prototypes like the Toyota Eagle in the same class or the Porsche 962. Bill won last year in the 91 Duracell Camaro (#33).

Re: Camaro road race car.
Thanks guys for the nice comments.
Kurt do you have photo link to share of your car week experiences?
The 240SX was actually a unique IMSA race car that participated in 3 hour long IMSA races while being driven by top IMSA drivers.
After our race I went and met Walt with the Pink Anytime Pizza Camaro.
Super nice guy, I was offering him hamburgers, a bowl of chips and sodas, anything to try and slow him down.
I very much enjoyed the GTP/GTO race group.
We had full green flag races, 8 races with no broken or damaged cars, no yellow or black or red flags.
2019 Reunion IMSA is the featured marque so expect a big turn out of GTP/GTO and GTU race cars.
Next Reunion I'd like to see a big 50 car GTO/GTU race.
This spring for the Long Beach Grand Prix the GTO group has been invited to field 34 Historic GTO cars in 4 races.
The GTP leaders slice through traffic very well.
https://youtu.be/70el9mWlHdI?t=14m49s
Photos from Matt my fearless mechanic.
The Camaro was so reliable Matt had time to shoot a few hundred photos.
https://photos.google.com/share/AF1Q...9hZTdpMXRWWjV3
6:56 Drag racing an off boost Toyota GTP car down the front straight.
Knowing he can't see you, had to lift at the pinch point under the bridge.

Over Pre Reunion and Reunion we had 8 fun, fast, reliable and safe race sessions, no issues.
After the 2 race weekends the car was still perfect, not one missed shift or a wheel wrong in 8 races.
So here is my video of the 8 almost flawless track sessions/races.
If you watch only 1 this is my favorite.

Thanks guys a little encouragement goes along way on this race team.
The Duracell Camaro was the best sounding Camaro at the event.
At 6:45 Listen as he rows through the gears like a pro stock drag car, great music to my ears.
Close behind I get beside the Toyota GTP on the front straight.

Unfortunately, haven't had much success (or even time) lately with freelance stories and photos. I do post to instagram. I got several shots of your car coming through the corkscrew and down the straight right after. Only posted one to Instagram thus far.

Re: Camaro road race car.
Kurt thank you for the photo.
Lighting is just right, really lights up the car and the BBS wheels.
Then I spent an hour looking at your photos and your hashtags linked to hundreds of event photos.
Noticed the cool font on your 33 car numbers, channeling the Duracell car?
Where you took the photo, from the Corkscrew to the apex of T9 is one of my favorite places on track and to spectate at as well.
You come over the Corkscrew blind but hopeful for an opportunity to pass somebody before the apex of T9.
Unlike other areas where you set up a pass descending from the Corkscrew offers rare and unexpected passing opportunities.
I'll tell you racing with HMSA and all the Historic race cars is a real thrill.
It surprises me how far in advance all these races require commitment for participation.
For example.
The 10 was already entered and accepted to the Long Beach Grand Prix to be held April 2019.
Many Hotels are already sold out in the area for the weekend.
We race twice on Friday and once on Saturday.
Considering changing the Weismann quick change spur gears for 160mph top speed on the long front straight.
We are going to have a great time, but we joke our race should provide a bump for beer sales as spectators file out of the stands when the Pros are not racing.
By April I should have 300 Long Beach practice laps on the I-racing simulator.
I also like to study Video of the Long Beach race from 1988.
For the August 2019 Pre Reunion and Reunion already have lodging reservations, as you know difficult and expensive to find a place short notice during car week.
Deadline to enter Reunion is 1/20/19.
The 10 was also entered and accepted to the private pavement event at the Thermal club next month.
A race every 3 or 4 months in the 10 gives our 2 man team plenty of time to get motivated and race prep the 10 well in advance.
Since the 10 is running great we have had time to race prep the 5 car too.
The 5 is a 1992 Weaver chassis, 18 degree 730hp V8, 4th gen Camaro, Andy Porterfield's last race car.
Perhaps we can get to Laguna Seca this spring with the 5 for the sound free Spring Classic race.
That would give us plenty of time to prep the 10 between Long Beach and Pre-Reunion/Reunion.
Then in May we have a private track day scheduled at Buttonwillow for the #30 911.
Until a new owner for the 10 is found we plan to enjoy it every chance we can.
Again Kurt thank you for the stunning photo and the kind words.
I owe you a burger and beer sometime soon!
Photo of the 10 and company.
Long Beach 1989 in Hot Rod magazine.
I remember seeing this issue/photo in 89 and thinking I like my cars too much to subject them to racing.
How I feel when the race car is ready and in the trailer 2 weeks before race day.
A bit off topic, though related to Laguna Seca...We did spectate last month at Rennsport.
I'm more of a Renaissance racer, new Porsches and most new cars don't interest me.
It's terrible new car owners with slick automatic transmissions with auto rev downshifts have forgotten how to shift an H pattern or how to heal/toe downshift.
On track No nannies for me!
My favorite Porsche race car, the 917/30 Can Am killer with an air cooled 12 cylinder turbo and over 1100hp.
The best part of spectating was not towing and not being stuck in the right two lanes.
Except for construction zones and a few miles in LA, we drove 6 hours at 80 to 90mph and only passed a few cars, traffic was flying!
It was a great debut for our black 911 that started the trip with only 100 miles on it after a complete restoration.

Thanks, glad you liked it! I have several more in and around the corkscrew, just haven't had the free time to really go through the pics. I think I took over 6 thousand pics during car week...
The 33 lining up with the Duracell car is a coincidence; I chose it for autocross for personal reasons. However, I did get to line my car up next to the 33 car for a cool photoshoot about a year ago.

Happy New Years!
Beautiful photos Kurt thank you, lighting and focus are amazing.
Your Pebble Beach photos are stunning as well.
It's a wonderful gift to see the car at Laguna Seca and reflect on a great car week.
If you find a favorite PM me, I'd like to blow one up/frame it and hang it near my racing simulator.
Come on over and run some laps at laguna Seca sometime?
Just sent my entry in for 19 Reunion, you going again?
Would be thrilled to be accepted into the big GTO/GTU Reunion race group.

The #10 has been accepted and is scheduled to race at the following events.
Drop in and visit if you see us at a race.
We have the #10 dialed in and running well.
It is for sale and this will be our last year racing it.
It's been a fun adventure racing and dialing in the #10.
I could not have done this alone, so above all else a big thank you to all our race friends that have helped in the garage and at the track.
Time for us to move on and give a new owner the opportunity to share the excitement of racing #10 in these high profile historic races.
Next year we plan to do some local races with our other race car.

It's getting some tlc and then goal is to make it to Reunion again.
Hopefully a test on a warm day this spring.
I'm getting particular (old), no more cold rainy track days.
Stay Well
Last time out in the 10.

Re: Camaro road race car.
Good news the 10 car was accepted again to the Monterey Reunion and pre reunion this month.
Unfortunately pandemic parts supply problems have delayed the 10 car from being completed in time for Reunion.
Seeing this was the case we had to regretfully decline our Reunion entry.
Next week the 5 car the 4th gen goes into the shop.
Just for a shock valve dyno and also to let the race shop put a set up on the 5.
We had the 5 handling well with even tire wear but I was not happy with the rake.
Figured I'd let the race shop put a set up on it and if it is better, then I can just continue tuning off that set up.
Plan is to race the 5 at local races this fall, and the 10 at selected Historic races too.
Living in California with our tough smog laws, traffic laws and speed limits seems from now on that race cars are the best way to enjoy wrenching on and driving cars fast.

Re: Camaro road race car.
Entered the 2022 Reunion, IMSA GTO/Trans Am cars will have their own 40 car run group.
https://www.co.monterey.ca.us/Home/C...News/8472/9711
Was able to pick up this period correct 358 built by Pick's Racing engines, about 610hp with only dyno time.
A refreshed 358 complete oil pan to intake, distributer, power steering pump, water pump, dry sump oil pump only $7k.
V8 power is so affordable compared to almost any other type of engine.
All it needs is my original polished valve covers and it will look the same as before.
In the last year the 10 was completely serviced.
New wheel bearings, rebuilt rack and pinion, rebuilt calipers and new Project Mu brake pads, new throw out bearing and dual disk 7 inch clutch.
New oil tank same shape as the old one that was getting brittle, new on board fire suppression system with a thermal switch so fire will activate the system if driver is unable to activate it.
Revalved the shocks to better match the spring rates.
Still need to replace the silver firewall with matching new silver heat barrier material.
Also was able to source a third set of BBS basket weave wheels for spares.
Really thrilled with the shop helping with the 10, Bryans Racing in El Cajon California.
https://www.bryansracing.com/
Hope to test late this spring.
It's still for sale but I'm very much looking forward to racing it at Reunion.

been there, done that.
I used to have long hair.
Till one day, I had to R&R a 700r4 in my GTA. And the trans fluid spilled everywhere, and since I was working on my back from the floor, my hair was marinating in ATF for about 2-3 hours.
I swear I used half a bottle of shampoo to get that crap out of my hair, and even after that, I was smelling ATF for probably 3-4 days.

Re: Camaro road race car.
Under the old firewall material are nice original 1987 firewall panels.
Replace the silver heat barrier material and then reassemble using all original parts, steel header, aluminum valve covers, steel airbox, 23 degree 358.
Was thrilled that my 12 gold BBS wheels all passed crack check.

Cool location, check.
Wrapped in plastic, check.
I've never heard of applying WD40. Does that help keep them soft?

Re: Camaro road race car.
I don't know for sure. I just started the WD40 treatment.
It was suggested to me since my slicks sit between races.
I think WD40 and plastic wrap is meant to keep the air off the rubber so it does not dry out as quickly.
On the durometer new slicks are 40.
3 year old like new were much harder at 70.
I just ran the 3 year old set after 2 months in wd40 and they worked well, 2 second a lap slower but still fun.
Both my Camaros use the same size slicks.

Re: Camaro road race car.
The 23 degree 358 trimmed with the original engine plate and new belts and pressure tested swedged oil hoses.
Front seal of the transmission replaced, new 7 inch clutch and t/o bearing.
Back in the car soon, with the original air box, valve covers and header.

Re: Camaro road race car.
2 months before the Reunion Laguna Seca and they already told me my pit pals.
I will be working out of Tom Gloy's Capri trailer again.
He brings every transmission replacement part I would ever need.
And next to us is Mike in this awesome Buick.
Can't wait to see the other 25 Historic spec IMSA GTO cars from 82 to 89.
Anyone going to Reunion?
San Diego skyline and full grandstands in the background, my favorite photo location on this track.

Re: Camaro road race car.
The 10 is ready to race at the Monterey Reunion.
Got 8 new slicks, and a tank of 110 leaded.
4 days of racing 30 IMSA GTO cars from the 80s, first race Wednesday afternoon.
If you make it to the Reunion drop in our pits for some R and R.
