First time back on the track since Octuber last year when we raced at the ET Finals in las Vegas .
we went out first round with .002 RED
but we got close to one of our goals

My goal is to run a 10 second pass. Last weekend it ran a 11.2 on motor, but it had some issues that I believe kept it from running to it's full potential.

the back spacing is 5.5" and with 28X10.5 MT tires I didn't modify anything on the car they fit perfect

Goals for the 2017 season... Figure out how I lost ET last season, and really bring the car around to it's full potential. Build as it stands:

84 Camaro Z28, full stock suspension, interior
383ci Small block, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, intake, Holley 780 SA
10.75:1, running 91
Lunati Cam, .510 lift (can't remember duration, lsa etc.)
early 700r4 with 2400 stall
10 bolt rear, 3.23 open

So two seasons ago I ran a 14.55 at 101mph. Last year, I couldn't even get past 14.75, but still getting 101, 102 mph. I changed the tires and the carb (was an Eddy 750 AVS), so I have to figure out where I lost there. Bought a 10 bolt with a posi and 3.73 gears, so hoping that makes a fair difference. I've been told that my engine build is capable of 12s, so now it's just getting it to the ground. Always open to suggestions!

I'll post time slips later on, but my 60 ft went up and my 1/8 mile ET went up, but I was still able to hit some decent (100+ mph) in the 1/4. The throttle response is solid on the car, and I think I've got the carb fairly dialed. I think it's just a tire/traction issue. The previous year I used Mickey Thompson Sportsmans (still a street tire, not a drag radial) and this year I used Pacesetters. I switched because the pacesetters were wider (255 instead of the 235 MTs I had on) both are a 26" tire though, so I don't think I was shrinking my gearing by going with too tall a tire. At the end of the day I know it's hard to judge any of this without a posi or decent rear suspension set up, because I'm just so inconsistent. As mentioned above though, I'll be swapping to a 3.73 Posi 10 bolt before the season, and I have access to a set of DOT bias ply slicks that I'm going to try out.

As for the weather, I'll have to start taking better notes, but if memory serves the 14.55 came on a warmer day (sunny, low wind, 25*c) and the 14.75 and higher was actually on a cooler day, overcast etc which you'd think would be better for air density, but not for track temp I guess. Again, it's all guess work until I get a set up that can power and traction together

Make a few test and tune night passes. My car is practically stock but I am really curious to see what difference my full hooker exhaust (headers, y-pipe and muffler) as well as my new rebuilt transmission will make.

Maybe I can get into the high 14s?

The first goal of the 2017 season has been accomplished and was sooner than we expected and far beyond our expectations
Our goal was to get to 10.40’s we did it on our 3rd time out , right off the trailer first run we got 10.501 and on the second run was 10.428 as the track got better car started to get better 60 fts and we hit 10.393 and a few 38’s and the best run was 10.378 @129 mph with 1.362 60 fts

Next we are going to try E85 and see if we can get same results or better

Trying to get the car to the track this year and see what my mods of the past two years are worth.

Last time out in 2015 it ran 11.16 @ 122 with a weight close to 3600 lbs.

I threw the kitchen sink at weight reduction and we'll see where it ends up. I am hoping around 3100-3200 lbs.

My goal is to run a 13.99 or quicker with my 92 firebird. Has a 355 with some world products heads, flat top pistons, 280 duration cam, torker ll intake, demon 625 carb, 3000 stall converter and 373 gears with a limited slip. Needs drag radials bad.

Well I finally gave up on running V6s. For the past five almost 6 years I lived for those turbo 6s. I had a lot of great experiences and really did put the engine to the test. But I finally moved to a V8.

After racing it for the first time two weekends ago I feel very confident with this engine and car. I feel it's a very competitive consistent Sportsman class car. Although I only made three runs with it it only moved a little under 2. And once I got a good feel at the tree I made a .039 and a .040 reaction time back to back.

the other week when I raced it I really felt I could have went many rounds with it but I had a slight problem and I had to Pedal the car on my first round elimination. I completely destroyed the guy I was racing at the tree. But considering earlier that day one of my very good friends wrecked his car because his 12 bolt rear end locked up at the finish line I was a little hesitant. And I just did a V8 engine swap a week before I raced it so I was still working out all the little imperfections. Next Sunday I hope to make up for that weekend.

The one bad thing is the V8 is definitely a lot slower than the V6 was so I'm not at the bottom of my et cut like I used to be so now I do get Chase down a little bit. It ran a 12.159 and a 12.172 and a run completion 12.165.

So my new goals are to finish in the top 10 at Milan.

Although it seems like a very high goal I believe I finally have a car that can consistently run the same time over and over again. I fought that with a turbo car so many years. That turbo Camaro would run a 11.71 pass then a 11.85 the next pass and then and 11.50 to the next. it was a terrible bracket car but I will say it was fun.

That's one of the things I've always said about the turbo cars. That can be extremely fast. Look at a twin turbo 6L. A car like that could run an 8 second pass then drive home. In a bracket race however, turbos do not do very well because of inconsistency. In a heads up race, sure, dump the boost into the engine and run it out the top end but bracket racing is a lot different.

Turbos are relatively inexpensive HP and the power level can be changed by playing with wastegate settings but I'd rather have a big blower sticking out of my hood screaming HP. Downside to big blower cars is that you're not going to easily make an 8 second pass then drive home unless you swap the pulleys to run it in a deep underdrive to reduce the boost.

Yes, you'll definitely need tires. I'd gone 1.7 60' but that's long gone now that the ET Streets have lost their stickiness. New radials on order for later this year.

I couldn't agree more. I have had some days where my car was pretty deadly consistent but those days were few and far between. It could be different if I would have gotten to build up 5psi and leave off the trans brake. But since I was a slow 11 second car the class I was in wouldn't allow it.

Finally got her in the 5s last weekend. Most of the passes where 5.96 at 115mph.
but did have one 5.95, not to bad for a 496 with oval ports.

While it's nice to see the success of others, some us (namely yours truly) didn't get the chance to race at all this year. The work schedule overlapped the only test and tune day. It kind of sucks that since the local track was taken over by the NHRA (from IHRA) they also dropped the mid-summer mid-week test day. Strictly Fridays now and I'm out of town every Friday.
Made some improvements in the engine too (ported heads, bigger cam) as well as the transmission (Gearstar Level 4 equivalent and another 500 additional stall) but never got the chance to test.
Maybe next year I'll be able to post in "What are your goals for the 2018 racing season?"

The plate is actually a sticker a friend made for me. He did a great job, it evens reflex's light just like the real deal.

Trying to get out one more time. Ended up changing from a th350 to a glide. Waiting on the converter and trans to show up. Still gunnning for that 8 sec pass. I haven't been able to turn up the car at all yet. Soon enough though.

Well, I didn't quite meet my goal, but came close. Had more competition this year. Couple 2nd places, a couple 3rd places, and a heat race win. Car has a lot more dents, but she is still rolling.

Didn't get the car out of the garage except for the chassis cert in the spring. Weather this year was hot. No rain outs but sitting in a black car in the staging lanes wearing a fire suit in 30c+ weather is not nice racing.

Car is sitting back up on jackstands. I really hate the Aerospace front brakes on the car. Fit was never perfect from new. The pads sit a little high on the rotor and there was no way to correct the fit. When the pads started wearing down, I would take them off and shave the tops so they wouldn't wrap over the top of the rotor.

When I put the car back on stands, I decided to pull the front tires, push back the pads and recheck the system. The rotors are warped which I expected after doing a very hard brake stop many years ago in Calgary. There is no way to get taller rotors so the best option is to just change the system. JB's had a set of Willwood front race brakes on sale but are special order. It's going to cost me just under $1000 and they should arrive within the next couple of weeks. Hopefully, they're going to fit a little better plus they have a slightly taller rotor. 10.75 compared to the Aerospace 10.25

Running the skinny 15" front rims limits front brake choices. A 12" vented rotor just doesn't fit behind this type of rim very well if at all so the 10-11" solid brake rotor system has to do. At least Edmonton has a very long shutdown area. 180 mph cars don't even need to use a chute if they don't want to.

I still want that 8 second timeslip.

There's always next year

I need to get to Edmonton or Medicine Hat to do licensing passes to get an NHRA license since my old IHRA license is expired and not valid at these tracks.

we finish 2nd in the summit series missed the championship for 11 points , we won 2 , races made it to finals also a couple times and car ran really good all season best ET was 10.30 with 60fts of 1.35 and 131 mph .
this weekend we are going to las Vegas for the ET Finals Div 7 and after this race is NMCA WEST in Fontana we still have chance to finish in the top 5 in Quick Street and Bracket 2 and if weather is good we may hit 10.29's
