St Race Big Blk NA - 85 Camaro White.-------------Rick Lutz, Jr.
St Race Sm Blk PA - 86 Camaro Black.--------------Stephen Chechak
St Race Sm Blk NA - 88 Camaro Orange/Black.----Bobby Ricci
St Race Sm Blk NA - 86 Camaro Red.---------------Matthew Bunal
St Race Sm Blk NA - 89 Firebird White.-------------Steven Phillips
St Race Sm Blk NA - 86 Firebird Black.--------------Erik Wiegand

That one is mine. Pontiac 400 (Out of a W72 car. Couldn't be saved), T56 out of an LS car, and Strange S60 4.10's. 7730 ECM. Small Voodoo cam, stock 6X heads with good springs and valves.

Literally had 100 miles on it with a 305 TPI tune. Went from a worst of 14.9's@90 to a best of 13.70@101.89. First run at Cordova was the first time at WOT on the entire build.

Re: Drag Week 2017

Jeremy Heizer had his 91 GTA there for the 5th straight year and 5th straight finish. Hes not on the board much but had about a 10.1 et average I think.
I didn't get any pix of 91 Firebird Red.-----------Jeffrey Ziegenhorn or was it the red 82? they were coming in to the track as I was leaving.
Pix I took below are from Gateway raceway, day 2.

Completely missed him on the list.
I'd be interested to know his setup. Running bottom 10's for 5 days in a row is no easy feat in my book.
Congratulations Jeremy on a job well done.

Re: Drag Week 2017

skinny and IROCzman, I appreciate it. It was an absolute amazing trip. Everyone was easy to talk to, always willing to help, and wow. At the risk of sounding sappy, it really was the best group of people you could ever hope to be around. My chief and I were in a parking lot, chasing gremlins (found him and beat his a** too), and an 8 second truck pulls in and "Hey, you guys need any help?" Everyone I met was like that. From Jeff Lutz, all the way down to the dude in the Honda running 23 seconds 1/4 miles. It was a blast.

TTOP, you must have caught me either just getting ready to get in the lanes or just getting back from my worst pass of the week. Either way, didn't even see you, but wow, nice pics. Ill be saving those.

I think Matt was doing a clutch adjustment at that moment.

I believe it was another Matt in the IROC in your first pic. Met up with him a couple of times in the staging lanes over the course of the week. Dude was very cool. Came by and helped my chief and I swap a balancer that wasn't exactly doing it's job on Wed. That's a nice clean car he has. Fast too. Layed the smack down on me on day 1 in Cordova!

Re: Drag Week 2017

As Tony mentioned, I don't post on here a whole lot anymore. I did finish my 5th consecutive Drag Week this year. This is the most 5th gens I've ever seen.

My car is almost 3800lbs and a stickshift nitrous car so it can be a bit violent, but I've had great luck so far with a reliable and proven 11 year old combo.

It's a 402ci LS2 block with CNC'd 317 heads, a FAST 90/90 setup, and an off the shelf hydraulic roller. The 2nd set of Hawks longtubes ever made (back in 2005), 4" mufflex, a faceplated Viperized T56, McLeod RXT clutch, and a Moser 9" with 4.11s. The car isn't legal for 9's so I turn it back a bit and shoot for 10.0s. I was running a 150 shot (about 130rwhp) all week.

10.29@136 on a 1.55
10.20@135 on a 1.48
10.19@129 on a 1.42 (lifted early)
10.15@135 on a 1.43
10.14@135 on a 1.44

The car was pretty consistent and getting quicker every day. Not bad for foot throttle (no 2 step) and leaving on all the nitrous on a WOT switch. lol

Did I mention my sons and I long hauled the Power Tour in it this summer... 2100 miles in 7 days and I also just finished putting AC back in the car. STREETCAR!!!

Re: Drag Week 2017

TTOP350, you came by and introduced yourself to me at Gateway, and I was so caught up with the problems we were having that i probably looked at you like you had 3 eye *****. I definitely owe you an apology man. The good and bad thing about my car is that 3rd pedal. it's everything i want for on-track performance, but it takes a good bit of effort and makes the turn around from street to race to street again very hectic. couple that with the water pump and fuel tank issues we were having and i was not having a fun morning, lol. thanks for coming by and i hope you don't hate me lol

Listening to the announcer during the races, there were also a few professional racers (Top Fuel etc) doing drag week just for the challenge.

A lot of the slow street vehicles were also doing it just to get a feel for what it takes to do a week long event. They may be back in following years with more competitive vehicles. Not many people are going to build an 8 second street car then go and compete for the first time but then a few of them just might just to see if they can do it.

I'm sure Matt will have a completely different checklist of things to take with him next year after seeing what he needed this year. Unfortunately, you can't have everything you need. Listening to the tower announcer calling out for parts to help someone out can get interesting for the strangest parts being requested. I know in 2016 there were requests for Walbro fuel pump parts. I heard this year during day 5 where someone needed a Corvette 3 bar MAP sensor (and got one).

I think I would fall into that category.
I been on a lot a long road trips with my heap and have found myself at the side of the road on an occasion or two. Been to the track a bunch of times too over the years and have had to limp home. Combine the two over 5 days (or more like 10 days if you have a distance to travel to just get to the event) and I can see where it's tough on parts and people.
Hats off to all of those that answered the call.

No apology needed, You were probably thinking who is this weird fat guy?
I understand 100% what you were going through, just thought I'd offer up some help if you needed it.. Nice work

Yeah, TTOP I was parked right next to Matt that day at gateway, and he was trying to find a way to get his water pump back together. Ended up using some heavy gauge copper to hold the brushed in so he could get the motor back together. Like he said, hectic day for those guys. Just glad I could help out a little.

GTA91 Man that's a nice car. I was trying to come up and take a look at it in the lanes at Cordova but never got the chance. Nice set of passes. Hope to be a little closer to your times next year.

Thanks skinny z & Chvywolf! Don't look too close though... she's got over 206k on her and mostly original paint. Definitely needs a paint job, but it gets driven and beat on regularly! lol

I can appreciate that. I'll never be COTM unless they change the prerequisite to a "OK from 40' and gets driven hard everyday it's on the road" category.

Re: Drag Week 2017

That's no different than my car. It looks good in pictures and looks good going down the track but it sure won't win any show and shines.

Shiny and clean doesn't make it go any faster. There were a lot of rusty cars at drag week.

Re: Drag Week 2017

True enough. Then again some are fast and shiny. I can appreciate the effort that goes into having both. The difference between yours and mine though is that at least you're one of the above....!
As for anyone who's participated in Drag Week, hats off again. Fast or slow. Rusty or shiny.
