The car doesn't have to be smog legal but it does have to pass the sound check. I believe that is 93db for Qualcomm. Basic safety tech inspection has to be passed as does the helmet check. The SCCA site will have all of those rules. The class you run in for SCCA might have additional rules as well for what can and can't be done to the car.

I spent 2 years learning car control at Qualcomm AX events.
Looking at a track map the main swale or drainage gutter should be indicated on your track map.
That drainage swale dictates that the entire parking lot slopes/drains towards the swale, the low point in the lot.
So looking at the track map you can tell which corners are on camber and off camber.
Off camber may require a later apex.
The surface has camber which is interesting compared to completely flat AX tracks.
Unfortunately the surface condition is terrible at the Q, very loose no grip, but that helps develop and test car control skills.
Asphalt is crumbling and years of pot hole repairs make for some serious bumps.
Track designers do their best to design around the worst areas but it is common during a race day for the course to be adjusted if the surface starts to break up.
The west lot tracks are longer than the east lot tracks.
The west lot allows you to pit under the trolley bridge for shade.
Before the trolley bridge we used the entire west lot.
Reaching over 100mph heading down from the Bud sign on Friars road to the san diego river was a thrill.
The one thing I think about if I were to I spin at Quallcomm is...
Where exactly are all those parking lot light poles?!
