Cam Ideas
Cam Ideas
I am searching for the right cam for a nitrous set up on an 84 Z28 (305). From My understanding of nitrous wouldn't a cam with a high exhaust profile make more Hp by getting all of that gas out quicker. I have seen some cams for comp cam that are supposed to be for nitrous and do this very thing. Does any one else have an input on this or better idea for cams.
From what I have seen the Comp Cams nitrous cams work real well. Nitrous likes a wider lob seperation like a 112 -114 and a larger exhaust lift and duration. Something around a 10 degree differance is about what you want to scavenge the excess exhaust gass's out of the cylinder.

Have you used this cam if so what was the idle like and how did it perform with out the juice?
I have had many different nitrous motors... I can give you a recomendation from personal experiance but I need to know what you are looking for out of it first. If you are looking for a good torque monster cam that is cheap and responds to nitrous very well and still pass emissions then go with the Summit 214/224 cam. It is only $79 or $89 for the cam and lifter kit and the idel in a 350 is like a comp 268 cam, a slight barly noticable lope. In a 305 it would sound good and run like a scalded dog. I have had this cam in a stock 350 with 305 heads and a stock cast iron 4 barel intake and a Q-jet cab with a 12" Saturday night special converter and 3.42 gears in a 75 Camaro and picked up a full second on a 125 shot. On the bottle the car was good for a high 12. So the 305 could easily match that with a after market aluminum intake (like a Performer).
