How much power?

Just curious since my ride wont be dynoed till the end of the week what kind of numbers I could expect so my expectations aren't too high. Im guessing somewhere in the 500 HP range, the supercharger Im guessing is running stock boost 8 lbs? Anyone know how much more boost I can add without forged internals?

My mods are as follows:

SBC 355ci
Comp blower cam
KB Hyper Pistons
Eagle Rods
Federal Mogul Main and Rod bearings
Chromemoly pushrods
Comp Blower Cam
Federal Mogul Oil Pump
TCI Balancer

Re: How much power?

My buddy's 355 w/ 195 elim afrs made just over 400rwhp on 6 lbs through a 700r4 and a 12bolt. The F1A was pullied to 15lbs, but it had leaks. So the Charger was eating some of the power. Also I would say the tune isn't 100% dialed in.

I'd say 500 is a tad lofty for a RWHP number, at the crank I'd say possibly.

Re: How much power?

Isn't a 650 carb too small for that setup? I realize that it is a blowthrough but will it supply enough fuel? My 350 in my transam is moderately built, afr 210 heads, 10:1 pistons, cam is 240-245 the lift is .504-515 and I needed a 750dp because a 650 was choking it.

Re: How much power?

yea at 8psi you should be moving approx 870 cfm of air. not sure what the 650 is rated at under pressure. The engine alone at 6k is moving approx 560cfm. The 650 might be a bottle neck, but that just means your power can only go up!

Re: How much power?

My virtual butt dyno says.. Assuming a good tune and 9:1 compression, the engine is probably making somewhere around 330 to 350 crank hp before boost. So if we use 340 hp as a base, and add 8 lbs of boost, minus about 20% for inefficiencies and parasitic supercharger drive loss, I'd expect to see 450 to 480 crank hp out of this setup. Accounting for drivetrain losses of 15%, I'd bet right around 400 rwhp.

Re: How much power?

Well she's in the shop, Im hoping to get the call sometime tomorrow afternoon to go see her get dynoed. She's getting the MSD 6al BTM installed along with new dynomax ultraflo mufflers. Before I up the boost I have to get my intercooler put on as well. As for 1/4 mile I would expect mid 11's or so. She's very fast pulls harder than anything I've been in.

Re: How much power?

It was built and installed at a place that only does rearends, specifically IWE Rear Ends Only.
I told them I might put a supercharger on it and take it to 520HP.
They said it could handle 600HP easy and gave me a 1 year, break it if I can warranty.

Re: How much power?

Do you have an aftermarket housing? Because 450 is the limit on a welded stock housing.

Your talking about a truck 10 bolt being 8.2" i believe... we are talking about 26-28 spline 7.625" 10 bolts in the fbody's. I dont believe there is a 32 spline option for a fbody 10 bolt

Re: How much power?

Well she fell flat on her face today, not sure why she only made 300 WHP at like 4-5 lbs of boost. Also at around 4500 rpm my power curve was going down as well. They said it should have made easily 450+ Im loosing boost somewhere

Re: How much power?

Did they wide band it during the pulls? Curious how you AFR looks.

What kind of cam specs and what lobe separation? Oops nevermind, I see you have a blower cam.

Re: How much power?

They adjusted the timing with a light which was way off. I had to turn the distributor some because it was stalling. They retarded the timing some to accommodate the boost. I'm just not sure why it's not making the proper boost.

Re: How much power?

Well I think they didnt know what they were doing on the dyno. I took it out today on an open stretch and matted the gas to WOT and I made consistent 8-9 psi, couldnt see my RPM because my tach doesnt work so installing the monster tomorrow. I think they didn't make WOT and only 2 of the 4 barrels were opening, so It's about 450 horse at the wheels at 8 psi

Re: How much power?

If they didn't know what they were doing, I'd want to verify the tune. Double check that the timing and a/f ratio are safe before you risk breaking things.

Well the AFR doesn't care if you're carb'd or fuel injected but a boosted engine certainly cares what the AFR is. If you get into the mid 12's or higher at full boost, at some point the car will fall on its face. If you get below the upper 10's you'll start losing power as well. Do you have a wide band O2 gauge on the car?

As for your 300 rwhp though, if you were only making 4-5 psi then that number isn't so bad. That puts you around 300 crank hp + a 25-30% power increase. It is interesting though that you're making the 8 psi driving it around but made less on the dyno.

Re: How much power?

I dont have a wide band. The air/fuel is comfortable at around 12 which according to procharger is good. What I think is they didnt hit WOT they got 4lbs of boost at 4500 with 2 barrels open at the carb. I've been able to hit 8-9lbs driving it around matting the gas to the floor. Guess I'll find out when I get to the track next week.

Yeah you never know.. a certain shop in my area has been known to skew dyno results lower to make other people's work look bad and then they try to sell the customer on their services. Of course when they dyno their own work it looks perfect.

Yeah who's to say they didnt do the dyno right to have me spend more $$$$ for them to find something wrong. I wish there were more speed shops here with a dyno
