Hooker LS turbo manifold build

After buying and installing the cx racing ls thirdgen kit I realized the amount of tubing and 3" hotside were not ideal for an s480 that I planned to install... Switched to hooker LS manifolds and fabricated up the hotside, and used the cx racing coldside that comes with thier kit as the intercooler has a great core and it was all 3" piping.

Here are some pictures to give you guys an idea of how I did my kit, with the thirdgen there isnt a lot of room for the turbo to be up very high. I ended up using mostly a 3" 304 ss donut and hacked it up.... Flange is an open t6 from ebay with cnc transition.

VS racing 60mm wastegate and S480 96/88 1.32ar. Setup should be good for 800 tire and mid 4000 full spool. I also re did my fuel system, tucked the regulator up in the cowl and ran lines through the fender well... Not pictured but I did make a shield that covers the lines in the fender from rocks and debris.

The whole front end of the car is hacked up because I will be doing tubular shock towers and front bars when I start installing the cage... the rest of the radiator support will be cut out and the rad/intercooler will be all mounted to 1" and 1 5/8" tubes

Wicked man!! How do those manifolds fit?? Does the cross over pipe fit good to? I'm kinda wanting to get the same thing for my 91. Are you doing a 5" DP or a 4"?

How does downpipe clearance look if you wanted to exit to the stock location without cutting anything? And with the AC box in place. Any room by cyl #8?

You won’t have room to run the downpipe back down on the passengers side above the manifold. It’s a little too tight back there. Car is a 5.3, downpipe is 4”, I would have done 5” but the turbo came with the reducer flange, my exhaust is about 1.75’ long so doesn’t really matter

Re: Hooker LS turbo manifold build

Thank you 89FormulaLS! I have been watching the forums closely waiting to see if any one has tried this manifold setup. And Finally at last someone has tried it!!! First off, YOUR BUILD ROCKS. I was going to run the stamdard truck intake but you've proven the tbss intake will work nicely I will likely be plumbing my fuel system very similarly to the way you posted in the other cx racing instal thread created by battmann. Much cheaper then getting a 4th gen tank and messing around with that. One thing I was wondering about is what crossover pipe you bought because Holley sells a few different ones. Or did you fab that one up yourself?

Thanks for the info.. Does your exhaust turn out and dump behind the front tire? Always a challenge to run a downpipe on these cars.

89Formula, do you think the downpipe could be run in the stock location IF the A/C box was not used?

I dont have an ac box and no way you could fit even a 2" pipe down there unless you chopped up the firewall

Could you possibly get a picrure of how close it is to the tire. I want to use this similar setup as a daily driver and I'm wondering if it will heat up the tire. Also do you think theres any way that the pipe could be continued to run under the car?

That’s exactly what I did, it’s the lokar cable hawks sells. I was pretty pissed when I got it and realized it’s just a generic throttle cable.... not thirdgen ls swap specific

Good to know, thank you for the reply. Sounds like we were both in a similar predicament.

It looks like its coming along nicely. That cage looks solid, those gusset plates around the tunnel look beefy as heck.

Re: Hooker LS turbo manifold build

cage and front end halfway done, going to start rewiring everything now and installing a 4th gen dash. I need to build a tubular radiator/intercooler support with some mounts for the pop up headlights.... and front bumper attachment brackets..... fitted the hoop as possibly high as I could, can slip about 5 pieces of paper inbetween it and the ttops, at 6'1 I need all the room I can get

Hey man. Older thread I know but….. what motor mounts did you use? Both on the engine and on the K member. My passenger side manifold is hitting the the factory mount on the K member. I have dirty dingo swap mounts on the engine. Looks like I need to raise the engine about an inch or change the factory mounts on the k member. Thanks.
