Bosch platinum +4s

I was thinking of getting a set of these spark plugs but they are kind of spendy. Wondering if any of you guys are running these and how do you like them. Thanks.

Aaron91RS 04-15-2003 11:51 PM

all they do is block spark from getting out. thats not good. they do however last longer since there is 4 prongs to burn off.
i use regular a/c delco

iroc22 04-15-2003 11:58 PM

Can you say gimmick?

No seriously there may be some slight performance gain from exposing a fatter spark to the incoming air fuel but how much of a gain? Probably next to nothing. Might be enough to make you pass the sniffer test if you're just squeaking by.

firebirdpl 04-16-2003 12:20 AM

get regular ac delco rapidfire's

DANIELEK 04-16-2003 12:28 AM

I had them for about a year and found "0" performance gain and "0" gas mileage gain compared the stock AC Delcos.

IMO, they aren't worth the $. Save your money for something else.

Catchen22 04-16-2003 12:37 AM

I got the +2 and I noticed a difference from the regular spark plugs.

Shagwell 04-16-2003 10:30 AM

If you want a nice plug go rapidfire, otherwise, just run regular AC's. I used-to work at Autozone. We had sooooo many complaints on those Bosch's it ain't funny. I think I heard maybe one little import kid saying that he picked up like 50hp if you know what I mean. He had 200,000+ on OE plugs so then yeah, he noticed a difference...

RaGe 04-16-2003 12:46 PM

I too used to work at autozone and sold the hell out of regular bosch platinums... I've also used them in 4 or 5 motors and have found them to be great plugs... I however would NEVER spend $5 for a plug so automaticly would not touch the +2 or +4...

My only bad experience with any plug was with ac delcos in my 305 TBI car.. it sat all winter and the plugs fouled so I couldn't get it it start in the summer... I switched to Bosch Platinums and this spring had no problem starting the car...

johnsjj2 04-16-2003 02:13 PM

This is my opinion, and I have no hard info to back it up, but those plugs still only make one spark. But now its divided up by 4 electrodes. So I don't think all four individualy are as strong as 1 spark. Aren't those Platinum plugs? I think they offer a greater life, not neccesarily greater performance.

A88GTANotchback 04-16-2003 03:53 PM

i just put them in and thers no diffeerence. next time im just gonna do the AC Delcos. prolly just as good and way less.
just not worth the money

JesasaurusRex 04-16-2003 04:30 PM

I just got the accel shorties, only cuz of the headers. Spark plugs are spark plugs they make a lil spark and ignite the fuel/air mixture how much can you possibly improve on them?

FreeLoader 04-17-2003 07:29 AM

Platinum +4's rock....they are kinda expensive though. I got some for my camaro and i saw some gains, but not all that much. Although I used to own a minivan(i still miss it), and i gave that 4 banger platinum +4s and saw crazy gains, i mean crazy, were talkin 165,000 miles, 89 engine, treated like ****, leaked and burned oil like crazy, so on so forth, i swear when i gave it taht tuneup (oil change, bosch plugs and wires, fram filter), i swear it ran insane speeds, like 0-60 in 7 seconds, it was crazy, although i will say that 2 weeks after i spun a bearing...hehe.

I still miss that awsome minivan....

xaivior 04-17-2003 12:24 PM

Ok let me see here .... electricity will only take the path with the least resistance ...so this means these plugs will not make 4 sparks since it is impossible to get each electrode to have the exact same amount of resistance and then you can hope the spark will split not counting all the other variable included in it .. the combustion chamber is a pretty hellish place and the electrodes will get some gunk on them ... they will make ONE spark. so IMHO these plugs are worthless ..they are just something for the people that dont have much experience with cars ..and electricity to spend money on.

FreeLoader 04-17-2003 02:31 PM

no one, not even bosch said they make 4 sparks...all its designed to do is increase your sparks options. If your spark takes the path of least resistance, and it only has one path, no matter how much resistance there is, its gotta go that way, which means that it will probably be somewhat weaker when it gets there, especially on older plugs and wires.

What Platinum +4's do is give the spark 4 different paths to take, and obviously the spark chooses the easiest, giving you a constant somewhat stronger spark. Also, because they're platinum, and because there's 4 different electrodes, the spark plugs have a significantly larger lifespan, and also will work like new for far longer then other spark plugs, so they definitly aren't worthless, they're just expensive as hell.

Wishmaster's87IROC 04-17-2003 09:17 PM

I got em in my ROC... Gains? I have no clue. I had the money and didnt know what I was doing so I purchased them. Atleast I know that when they do start to foul out I can get me another set for free!, they come with a limited lifetime warranty which means I can exchange them once I think. So with that said Im actually paying $2.50 per maybe less....Im happy!

So figure thats another way to look at spending the money on them.

MdFormula350 04-17-2003 09:47 PM

thats cool that they come with that warranty, i still havent really decided what plugs i want for my first tune up, most likely a/c delco's.

Wishmaster's87IROC 04-17-2003 10:12 PM

HEHE! I just looked at my receipt and I got the plugs on 9/14/2000 and put them on the shelf and I just put them in last year when the car had 120.635

they only got about 12000 miles on em so I got a long way to go til I need to replace them.

xaivior 04-17-2003 10:46 PM

DELCO'S ALL THE WAY MAN!!!!!!!!! :hail: DELCO!!

J's T/A 04-17-2003 11:27 PM

I have always had good luck with splitfires.. the regular ones not the ones that cost 8 bucks a shot..

Randy92Z 04-18-2003 07:55 PM

I went from regular bosch platinums to +4's and saw no gain.

chitown hussler 04-19-2003 09:36 PM

the bosch platinums use the lowest amount of platinum out of any plug on the market if you really want to spend the money on a platinum plug get NGK, champions or any other type of plug. just thought you guys would like to know
