Camshaft Question Inside

I have an '86 Firebird and my friend is currently rebuilding the engine for me. I need a camshaft and was wondering what I should go with? I'm not doing anything special to the engine, but it is to my understanding that if you put in a high performance cam, then you'd need to change lifter, rods, etc, etc.
I just want something normal or high output. Just wondering what you guys thought. (Its a 305 V8 5spd)stock
thanks, mike

ANY time you change a flat tappet cam you MUST change the lifters. And it would be a VERY good idea to change the push rods & rocker arms....also if this engine has over 20,000 miles on it you had better change those items or you will be playing russian roulette, one of them is going to fail sooner than it ever should.

I pretty much agree with Morley...

Cam and lifters are a definate, and I'd look at the pushrods and rockers for any abnormal wear. If they look good, I'd re-use those.

Thanx guys, I'll keep that in mind, I knew I had to change the lifters, but, I didn't know about the rockers, etc, etc. Thanks again
Mike

Not sure if you bought your cam yet, but I'd go with something like the new Voodoo 256H on a 305 5-Speed.

What kind of idle are you wanting and how much power? Any other mods? Let me know and I'll do some DD2000 models on it. I'd recommend you call Comp Cams Help line and ask them.
