PLASTIC REPAIR GLUE ??? I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good repair/glue . several of my under hood plastics have small cracks from mounting/bolt & screw holes to edge of plastic . function not affected , it just looks tacky . items I plan to repair , upper radiator support , hood latch filler panel , etc. . I do plan on painting after repair . any/all comments welcome , thanks ........ |
Re: PLASTIC REPAIR GLUE ??? I would say it would be easier to locate a undamaged part and paint that than worry about it breaking after paint? I have a Camaro filler panel that was installed but never driven and is in excellent shape forsale if interested. |
Re: PLASTIC REPAIR GLUE ??? The choice for adhesives for use on "plastics" depends on the type of plastic you want to repair. :yup: It would be much easier to find an undamaged part. |
Re: PLASTIC REPAIR GLUE ??? not a soul has tried to repair these plastics ??? I find that hard to believe . |

Re: PLASTIC REPAIR GLUE ??? Q bond . great stuff |
Re: PLASTIC REPAIR GLUE ??? There re a lot of good products for what you want to do; it's just research to figure out which one is right / best. I use 3M scotchweld stuff that's intended for plastic-to-steel. The competing product from Loctite/Henkel isn't cost effective because it's either tiny amounts with activator or huge specific gun applied tubes. The 3M is two tubes that last me years. Reach out to 3M with more detail and they'll direct you appropriately. The one I use is tough to find, but it's always available from industrial suppliers somewhere. Since you're painting, your best bet might be a plastic welder also. |
Re: PLASTIC REPAIR GLUE ??? Permatex plastic weld, have had good luck with it repairing abs plastic. Kind of a creme color 2 part epoxy. |

Re: PLASTIC REPAIR GLUE ??? My best luck has been with JB Weld Plasticweld. It sands well and takes paint well. You have to clean the plastic first with Ethyl Alcohol (DO NOT use ISOPROPYL Alcohol!!!) The only thing I've but it on that it hasn't work so far is Delrin which none of the parts you mentioned are made of that. |
Re: PLASTIC REPAIR GLUE ??? The ABSOLUTE best plastic repair stuff I've ever used is urathane windshield sealant. A bit costly but if it's worth it to you... |
Re: PLASTIC REPAIR GLUE ??? Get yourself some 3M 04240. It'll do everything you want and more. |
Re: PLASTIC REPAIR GLUE ??? plastic weld it... grab your solder iron and play around with it... if you can find a similar type plastic, you can use it for filler. when it cools, sand, dremel, dial it in. I have a bunch of different tips for my solder gun that ive made to help. Uncle Tom, I have fixed so many plastic things this way. you will know right away if it is a plastic that can be welded. Some flows and sticks back together really well, as some other types dont so well. Some types will be durable and tough, and some will be for looks only. There are some good suggestions here so far.
