Fair warning about AC Delco Ignition Control Module D1943A

Hey all so i replaced my distributor about 3 months ago with a jegs billet. The reviews stated the icm that comes with it is garbage buy a delco when you install it and call it a day. Well i bought the Ac Delco 1943A, found here , and less than 1500 miles later its already bad. My car broke down on me last night got it towed back to my house by a friend and what do you know its the AC Delco ICM. I put back on my 7 year old icm, which is a no name, and it fired right up.

Im not sure what happened to AC Delco but just thought i'd share my experience with their 2017 Ignition control modules.

EDIT: Please disregard first post, the icm was not the problem the pickup coil connector on the jegs dizzy was the problem. Go to start my car this morning and nothing. No injector pulse or spark but i had Fuel pressure on my schrader valve (that i installed near throttle body) I pull the cap again and just wiggle/push the connector and then put the cap back on and sure enough it fires right up. I guess it should say dont buy Jegs billet dizzy wow

If a Moderator can delete this thread/post that would be better

Happy thanksgiving

That's even the best quality version too!
I don't trust AC Delco like I used to.
Any sign of overheating on the metal bottom of the module or dielectric grease?

I bought one for my 93 C1500 2 years ago and haven't had any issues. Its USA made part and is way better than the parts store knock offs.

:( Nope , dielectric grease has no place under an ICM , The proper stuff being called either "Thermal Paste" or sometimes "Thermal Compound" , "Heat Sink Grease" , and possibly other names but not "dielectric" .

The little tube of pus that comes with a new ICM these days is trash , when installing any ICM that you expect to live more than a few miles the only way you'll assure that is to get some of the good (somewhat expensive , comparatively) thermal paste that people who build their own computers use between the processor and it's heat sink and use that . If the OP didn't go to an electronics supply house and spend like $15 on a tiny tube of the good stuff that's exactly why his new ICM failed , and it's replacement is highly likely to fail as well if good quality thermal compound isn't put under it .....

It’s very possible it did overheat because of that pack of puss that came with it is what I applied to it. Yet it was the same stuff, or so it seemed, that I used 7 years ago on the icm that is still working today.

If you have a good working ICM now , the best protection you can give it would be to get some of the good quality thermal paste I mentioned in my previous post and clean both the distributor and ICM of all old crud and install it with the good paste . Honestly my friend I've installed literally dozens of ICM's into folk's cars over the years doing this and not a one of those ICMs came back as a repeat failure .

The computer guys got the good stuff and I usually go the the local electronic hobbyist supply store to get it . Closest to me is a great place called "You Do it Electronics" and if you search your area I'm sure you'll find similar stores . Ordering it on line is of course an option too , I just wouldn't drive the car all that far till it's done , you got a good ICM now and keeping it properly cool is the only way to insure it has a long & productive life ;)

I use the paste for pc heat sinks also. Never had a failure

I bought this at the local bestbuy, pulled my icm off cleaned the back cleaned the dizzy plate and applied a even layer across the back of the icm and planted it back down. It states its good for temp changes up to 572F. Fingers crossed
