My Experience With Felpro Perma Dry Plus Perimeter Bolt Valve Cover Gaskets...

Felpro Perma Dry Plus Valve Cover Gaskets
Part #: 12869T
Composition: Rubber with a plastic layer in the middle (no sealant required for use)
Price (I paid): $30
First Impression: These look good, ought to work better than cork.
Impression 5 Days After Installation: These suck because they leak.
Further Investigation: After I pulled them off I realized that the gaskets themselves are ok and it was my cheap chrome valve covers. Apparently when I tightened the passenger side the lip of the valve cover pushed the gasket in and snapped the plastic in the middle. I used 5 quarts of oil on a 35 mile trip. Also, I used my stock load spreaders and later realized that there's a reason these gaskets come with new load spreaders... even though they look cheap. After I bought a set of Edelbrock Signature Series chrome valve covers that are made better, exchanged my broken gaskets for new ones, and used the proper load spreaders this time, everything is working great.
Final Impression: Great gaskets, easy to install, no messing with sealants
Recommendations: Only use these gaskets with either stock valve covers or high quality aftermarket covers. Mr. Gasket and Spectre chrome valve covers are not recommended. Also, ONLY use the load spreaders that are included with the gaskets. VERY important to make sure there is NO oil on the gasket area of the head or the valve cover.
