Accel Pro-Ram is finally done

I think it turned out pretty good.

I see you have a MiniRam in your sig. Did you replace that with this? If so, for what reason? What kind of times / HP di dyou get with the MR; and what does this setup give you?

Lo-tec 03-30-2006 11:25 AM

Looks good! I would recommend a much larger air filter.

Yes, I did replace the mini. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed my mini, but there is a small design flaw for what you pay for. Meaning the mini has unequal air flow. Everytime I took my intake off the back 4 runners were always black and front 4 runners were clean. The front 4 would get more air than the back 4 leaving them richer do to our ecm's batch fire system. You could install a variable injector controller like the one accel has to fix the problem or a buy F.A.S.T. system/DFI. The bottom line is you are still left with unequal air flow.
With the single plane design all cylinders receive same amount of air and better overall drivability. The car still pulls past 6500 RPMS. I also gain more torque at the bottom do to the longer runners. The best of both worlds. The track opens on th 22nd of April.

I am working on a cold air set-up with my SS hood. I will be getting a 14" filter before I hit the track.

Looks good dood.

A bigger air filter on a drop base lid would get you lots more air. I'd try to get at least a 3" filter in there, and 4" if you can manage it.

You could bend/cut/weld some aluminum sheet metal to form your own air flow duct so that you can make the air go from the hood opening to the filter, but I'm sure you know that already.:idiot:

You have to use a raised base air filter with that throttle body to clear the linkage, but you will have tons of room with the SS hood.

Nice - Wonder how that compares to the Stealth Ram...

zz17iroc, Nice job. I'm just finishing the same set-up. Could you tell me what you used for the throttle bracket. I'm having the worst time getting an answer from Accel, they said to improvise???? Are you using still using the 700R4? I had to add a 1" spacer to get any bracket to clear the fuel rail. I'm using the same intake, rails and throttle as you have. TIA.

Holley part# 20-113, modified to work with the accel TB. It had a bracket for the 700R4 cable to mount it underneath the accel cable, but I cut it off.

Those guys at Accel really don't help you out to much when you need them. Yes, I still have a 700R-4. I bought my bracket from summit, the part # is SPE-2428 for $9.95. Although you can get the same bracket from Advance Auto, but for $10.00 more. It will say Edelbrock or Mr. Gasket both are same as the one summit sells. You will have to do some modifications to the bracket because it's not a direct bolt on. I hope this helped. Also you can buy the throttle linkage and TV cable linkage at Advance Auto too, it will be an Edelbrock brand just ask the store clerk. All the stuff needed should be behind the counter on display right beside the carbs.

Here's a closer look at what I did

sofakingdom 04-05-2006 07:28 AM

The one of those that I worked with some years back had the same problem. It's like whoever Accel gets that TB from, is in some kind of a vacuum; the linkage on it is just about totally hostile to the 700 TV cable. The guy must never have seen a 700 car in his life. IIRC, we ended up cutting the lever off of a junk stock TB, and drilling a couple of holes in it to bolt to that stupid piece on the TB. It's been so long I forget the details, but it seems like we had to use the entire stock lever with the cable wrap-up part and all. Once we quit dinking around with what was there and just resigned ourselves to putting on the stock thing, it worked pretty good. After that, all we had to do, was to fabricate a bracket to mount up the functional portion of the stock throttle and TV cable bracket; and then it was golden.

Looks good! :D

Can someone tell me what TV cable is used with the Accel TB conversion? Thanks for the part #s on the brackets. That is very useful.

brutalform 08-10-2006 06:39 PM

I guess keep the origional.

Lo-tec 08-10-2006 09:32 PM

I've seen specs for the distance the cable is supposed to travel online before. I would try the original cable and move the mounting point on the linkage (if neccessary) to put it where it works correctly.

Thanks Lo-Tec.Thats what I was thinking. If I can fiddle with the bracket, and the TV cable is fully extended at WOT, just like it would be with the TPI bracket I have now. Do you know if the ball stud assortments, and TV cable stud, that Holley sells will work with the Accel T/B? It seems that the threaded stud part is not long enough to thread all the way through the linkage arm on the T/B. I can not see getting a nut, and washer on the back side of it. Maybe a dab of LocTite?

Lo-tec 08-11-2006 01:50 PM

None of the studs I got from holley were long enough. I ended up modifying the arm on mine. I used the second hole from the top for the accel cable, so I cut the section of the arm above it off (for air cleaner clearance), had someone partially weld in the hole I was using, and then tapped it so the holley stud threaded into it. A little bit of loc-tite and it looks "fac-tree"!

I'm sure Accel makes some kind of accessories for it, but they have a tech dept. that is less to be desired. You did have a TPI on your car before the conversion, correct?

Lo-tec 08-11-2006 02:34 PM

Nope, was a Q-jet setup, and the stock q-jet accel cable is what I'm using. I would think you would need a TV cable off of a q-jet car.

brutalform 08-11-2006 10:44 PM

Ive noticed in your pics, that, your throttle cable has the larger hole to slip over a ball stud, and a clip holds it into place. Mine, however, is a TPI style, and it has a round metal "pill" at the end of the cable, that slides into the groove in my T/B lever. Should not be too bad though, I'm sure I can fab somthing up. As long as I can attain WOT, and the TV cable does its job, I'll be set.

You had to do the entire conversion, huh? I thought that you might have had a carb set up, when I saw your throttle cable. I guess you had some work cut out for you, with running a harness and all. I'll still have to add some wire to the TPS, and IAC, and route them, so it looks like a factory install.
