TPI: Hagerty article on intakes they should bring back

First on the list is TPI stuff!
Hagerty Intakes that need a comeback

makes me wonder how much they would be 20 years later
Oh and they dont even show pics!

In my opinion, the only appeal to the T Ram is that they're so hard to come by. Look at the 1LE, TTA and Firehawk cars. 30 years later, they're not overly impressive, but it's what they represented back in the day, and the rarity of them now that makes them desirable. Same with these intakes. They're COOL, and as it even states in the article, -you don't see many of 'em at the local cruise in, but they're not necessarily great intakes.

Right.. I have T rams and looking down the throttle body throat and down the runners and how the fuel rail is cast in place and what not all I can do is say “what the flip were these guys smoking” but for being the period correct old school cool and rare factor I love it lol but by no means do I think it’s some extra special design or engineering feat.

Agree, they are cool period correct parts that won't make killer peak HP/TQ numbers due to design/space limitations but are still cool to see.

Well, they can't all be LS1s. The LT1 intake was boring too. Say what you want, but TPI, Super Ram, T-ram all have a look.

I've been walking past my intake daily, for the past week or so, it always catches my eye. Maybe it's just the lack of a fuel rail, but the runners just look huge for whatever reason. Best part is most people will never even notice that the only stock parts are some of the bolts. LOL Almost need to shelve the billet TB and find a bored stock unit to make it blend in a bit more...

A first based superram would have been the hot ticket, esp if it had built in studs to make assembly easier

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE all those intakes. I'm running an extremely modded TPI myself. But I do it because I like the look and it performs pretty well. Does what I need, but I know the fastest way down the track isn't with the TPI. I can't think of an example of a repop'd part strictly for the sake of nostalgia. Maybe the Gatorbacks. Not many, that's for sure. ....but I also know if every other hotrod pre mid 90's had a TPI I'd probably just go LS.

Do not go quietly into that good night! :p

I want a T-ram. Or a Super Ram... I just can't usually justify what they go for.

Re: TPI: Hagerty article on intakes they should bring back

second on list are the crossrams and Edelbrock's version - what do you know they did remake them
Crossrams
seems like plenty of Superrams are out there and if 2-300 T-Rams popped up a couple dozen would sell like wildfire than no one would want the rest- Ok maybe all those would sell
I myself have only ever seen 1 in person and if i ever found one at a swap meet heck yeah I'd be on it
day 2 parts are cool IMO

Which NOS plate is that? Which Holley throttle body (single not dual, right?)?

Trying to figure out a NOS plate that would work with my FIRST intake... Keep going back and forth between just drilling the base for port nozzles and plumbing it up before installing it, or finding a plate that will fit with the FIRST throttle body...

Re: TPI: Hagerty article on intakes they should bring back

I fully disagree with their list. Lol! I think what we need is a GOOD FLOWING TPI intake -aka FIRST. Lucky us, we have one!

Beyond that, the Chrysler Max-Wedge long-runner intakes are the COOLEST looking intakes ever. Something like these for an SBC or an LS, just not quite as long as the originals.

After that I really like the Edelbrock LS cross-ram: https://cdn3.volusion.com/kdqtg.dwyc...os/71413-2.jpg

And if money is no object: Nelson Racing Engine's X-RAM for large cubic inch LS engines: https://www.enginelabs.com/news/vide...-on-496ci-lsx/ *DROOL!*

Yes, I realize 3 out of 4 of these are currently available to purchase new.
IMHO, you want the longest runner possible that works at your desired RPM peak.

My stock forged bottom-end L82 SBC 350 shouldn't spin beyond 6,000 RPM so a FIRST is almost PERFECT. Max average power is supposed to be the name of the game, I thought. I think people too often are playing the wrong game.

Standard NOS 05151 TPI plate. Holley 52mm dual for 89-92 cars.

You can buy the spray bar plates and fittings from Holley/NOS and have a plate machined, or you could try removing the spraybars from a NOS or similar plate, have the plate cut to match your TB, then reassemble. Or just run a single fogger nozzle. Lots of options. I originally set up my nitrous kit so it'd be universal with a typical wet nozzle, just ran it into the intake ducting in front of the TB. Worked well enough on my 5.7L TPI car, but was really a riot on my 3.1 V6 Firebird. Picked up the plate later for no reason in particular. Despise filling the bottle, so really it's only there for settling grudges.

Re: TPI: Hagerty article on intakes they should bring back

GM could make a mint reman
LT4 pieces
All the good production and GMPP pieces
Used to be able to buy LS6 short/long blocks, solid lifter cams you name it. More and more guys are looking for 427s

MAke a stout 4 bolt 396/302 LT1 intake pink rods those nice steel tufftrided cranks.
Nice 400 4bolt block..make an aluminum option we could afford (Big 302!)

Most popular item were their lifters cause they almost never went bad

This stuff is making a comeback and in demand...

what would be cool are updated heads..outside markings looked authentic but updated port/chamber design. They wouldnt be able to make them fast enough
