opinions wanted on engine detailing...

me n some friends were thinking about starting to clean our engines up, paint them all nice n purdy n stuff. heres the question... what color would look good on my engine... i have a white gta.... and a white engine would look kinda funny. its easy for my friend. red gta= red engine... i was thinkin of going red too. but blue seems like it might go nicely on a white car... what do you guys think? thanks

GarageToys 01-27-2004 09:48 AM

What color is your interior? I agree a white engine would look kinda funky (and would get dirty immediately). Maybe carry your interior color to the engine.

Ever seen anniversary TAs? They have blue stripes and it looks great. I say go with either a Dark blue engine or a red one. Just don't paint it chevy orange...don't know why but it doesn't seem right in a GTA. Sure wish Pontiac would have kept putting 400s in these cars.

'70s Chevy Blue is pretty cool.

johnyIROC 01-27-2004 11:51 AM

I'm a fan of red myself

But I've also got a red engine bay.. so yeah

I was thinking of painting my engine as well. My car is black, with a black interior. What I was thinking of doing was painting my engine gold, to match the GTA rims and badges. What do ya think?

3.1EyeCandy 01-27-2004 12:37 PM

I actually REALLY like that idea. good choice!

pheonix305 01-27-2004 05:37 PM

how about pontiac blue thats what i painted mine.

brodyscamaro 01-27-2004 05:59 PM

gloss red or black

bytal 01-27-2004 06:32 PM

well i got a grey interior... so ya... not very exciting engine color now is it...i think i'm gonna go with blue. there's some metallic paints out there which i think might look pretty cool.. or it might turn out kinda ricy looking... you know how they all like shiny stuff... also how hot do engines get. because i have found paints good up until 260 degrees and up to 500... i wouldnt wanna start painting and low and behold it gets too hot down there

kevin arnold 01-28-2004 06:39 PM

i realy like black with some chrome parts, also orange with some chrome looks cool but it has been done to death {i did it too} but black will never go out of style. have a nice day

Red block, Gloss black valve covers

Paint the timing cover the same black. Black and red look awesome together. Besides, you can't go wrong matching black with anything on a thirgen, the tires are black, the weatherstripping....Haha.

Well if you look at your temp guage...you engine shouldn't get over 220. But just go with high temp or engine block paint its good up to 500 degrees..and there isn't much of a price difference maybee a dollar.

I like red or blue as well...that light blue that abubaca posted would look really cool and different but might be hard to find in high temp and would get dirty easily

bytal 01-29-2004 12:24 AM

i found the light blue kinda ugly.. i was thinking a nice solid blue color would look cool

JRupert99 01-29-2004 02:22 AM

Ill probably never hear the end of this one, but I painted my 305 when my buddies and I rebuilt it with OLD FORD BLUE hi temp spray paint from autozone. Now the color in a black bay did look pretty sweet however the engine knocked as soon as we got it in and I blame it on the FORD color paint...lol Anyway you can go look at it if you want but its a nice color blue not overdone. Wish I could throw a picture on here but cars in Michigan, im in ohio.

I painted mine bright blue to match the color I am going to paint the car. I think it would look good even with a white car.

Engine paint is high temp and they do make engine specific clear coat.... I dont know that there is much difference between high temp and engine paint accept the available colors for engine paint are specific for engine colors...ie ford blue etc and high temp are labeled generically ie red, dark grey etc..

Zepher 01-29-2004 04:58 PM

I vote red, and then get red suspension parts.
