Gauging Interest In New Exhaust Tips

I have all winter to decide what tips to go with for next year. I know there are TONS AND TONS of threads about different types of exhaust tips. I want to get out of the old school look..meaning round, long, shaped tips. Does anyone have any pictures of anything out of the ordinary that would fit the appearance of a 3rd gen body style?

I noticed these on ebay...thought they looked kinda cool

i always was a fan of those kinda tips. LT1 square type. Fits the lines of the car real good. Especially if you cut out the bumper and tuck the tips up in there. LOL

me too...but only if they were the LT1 square type :)

Those tips actually came factory on the 1970 FORD MUSTANG MACH1's. I'm trying to get something like this...to tuck it away...but to still be able to see some of it. The tips I have right now..are just to big, to old school and don't fit the theme of the car.

I like those tips you found, would look nice on your car. I agree, the big, long, 3-4" round tips have been used to the point, where they are just not that original any more, all though I still like them on certain vehicles:)

Here's mine, they are OEM from a 1997 Ram Air T/A:cool:

Im going for this soon as I get my exhaust re-run out the back(couple weeks).

YEAH!! THAT"S WHAT I'M TALKIN' BOUT!!!!
Been wantin' to do that for years... originally picked up the idea from the 90+ Grand Prix's. (worked on one a few years after I originally did my car and wanted to tuck it the same way they did.)
The GP's actually had a protective shield that kept the heat off the plastic.
Waitin' for my garage to go up, so I can pull the car in and start tearin' into it, so I can notch out the gd fx and tuck everything all nice and snug!!!

the 4th gen tips do look similar to the tips that I posted. One thing that conserns me is..if I get the Mach 1 Tips....the diamter is only 2 inches. I really don't want to run crappy 2 inch tail pipes going into my tips...that's way to small...

There are certain things that thirdgens need.......

One is 5 spoke wheels

and the other is ROUND exhaust tips.....

regardless of the overall style, it will look better with the two above items.......

megaracerx 11-09-2004 08:40 PM

i have the tips that come on the hooker competition cat-back system ...but i think thay go well with thirdgen's...but everyones different.

here are mine i personally like the round tips that are large rather than the shaped ones...

But if you do anything io love the look of borla tips.

The borla tips however were cutt off my borla exhaust when i bought it used so ther was nothing i could do.

I think that the 4th Gen tips are the best looking tips for 3rd gen Camaros.

I like the tips that 1tinindian has though. Very nice, I always liked the look of those OEM tips.

Those ones you posted look real cool. Basically anything thats big (not too big) and has a lip looks killer on our cars.

Wi$h 11-10-2004 01:48 AM

i have the exact same tips that nolan has on his car and i like them, they do fit the car very well i think

Those 4th gen Z tips do look good. Better on Camaros IMHO but certainly not bad on birds.

......I'm welding up my dual/dual angle cut rolled edge tips tomorrow....I'll post pics. I never really liked the dual/dual on Camaros, but the hooker tips REALLY grew on me. They just didn't have the angle cut and the rolled edge.

here is a picture of my current tips. I mean..they look alright...just don't really flow with the style I'm going for. I had this set-up custom made...and it was a little costly. But..the tips stick out a bit to far...from the rear bumper.

Hey 84custom......Have you considered a set of turn-downs? I used to have the big "in your face tips" too. I put on a set of turn downs to help quiet the car down a little...wasn't real excited about it at first, but now, I love it. My exhaust tucks up nice and tight under the bumper with just the rim barely visible. It helps clean up the look of the back of the car...stealthy too;)

The 4th gen tips are the best tips i have ever seen on a 3rd gen camaro. I saw nolans about a year ago and i had to put them on my car. I found them for like 60$ and they are stainless steel. These tips look like they should have been installed from the factory.

Orr89RocZ 11-11-2004 12:50 PM

those 4th gen tips are a great choice. But would you notice differences in sound over round vs. square tips? Do tips change sound?

that's what I was wondering too.

Also, the reason I really like the long roud tips...is because you can't see where they've been welded on to the pipe because they are so long. If I get the 4th gen style...the weld will probably be shown a little because the are much much stubbier..

85_ZED28 11-11-2004 04:13 PM

no tips looks good too!

you cant see the welds on my tips unless you get on the ground , the way their tucked up under you cant even see them . lemme see if i got a pic from the side , but in any case you cant see the weld with the way their tucked.

BLOWN25TH 11-11-2004 07:20 PM

I didnt recognize ant sound change when i installed the 4th gen tips. As far as the welds showing, it's exactly like nolan said, if you tuck them up there you cant see the welds. Again i think they are the best choice for tips on our cars.

Wi$h 11-12-2004 01:08 AM

same here, you can't see the welds unless you get on the ground, and i have the center ones just like nolan
