SO 22"s OR 20"s

From what i have been told 3rd gens should not get any wheels bigger than 18". I have been told i disgrace 3rd gens by having 20" irocs on my camaro. And they say im a camaro hater. Just wantes 2 let people know that 20s look pimp on camaros. But with 20s it lack performance which is true thats why u have to have a show camaro and a performance camaro. So check out my 86 show iroc camaro which will have 22 irocs soon. And check out the 89 which will be built for performace and is expected to be supercharged soon. Please give opinions

youre likely to get another locked thread and maybe even some trouble from the mods to continually post about 22s...bc it obviously just starts heat...bigger than 20s is pretty out there and in most people's opinion pretty ridiculous bc thats not what these cars were made for. Ive seen an iroc with 18s up front and 20s out back and it looked pretty sweet...

i will have 19x9.5 and 18x8.5 inch rims on my car and people have already sworn to me that the 19s are too much and wont look good blah blah blah...but i know my taste in cars is good and ive already test fitted them and they look awesome and i havent recieved a mixed comment yet. The 20s can stay if you like that sorta thing...good luck with 22s bc you curb one of those things and your gonna be in some money trouble...the bigger they get the easier they seem to get cracked and bented when curbed. and for the love of god dont put 225 30 22s on there or youll catch even more heat

You need to take this over to Com.org - Only the best links ...

dubcity 10-22-2006 09:54 PM

question, the 20"s look good to me why go to 22"s ?

rwdtech 10-22-2006 10:29 PM

DUBnoxious....

Camaroguy18 10-22-2006 11:35 PM

Im really not flaming here, but other than gigantic shiny wheels, what else makes this car a show car?

IROCThe5.7L 10-22-2006 11:51 PM

Way too big in my opinion. I would never go bigger than 18's. If you want to look at a car with perfect rims and rim size, look at Camaroguy18's car.

KonArtist 10-22-2006 11:55 PM

IMO Keep the 20's and save the extra money and get that back window re-tinted cause I don't care how big your wheels are nobody likes bubbled tint. Your wheels are fine but honestly your gonna run into so many issues with 22's its not even funny. The guys with box chevys with 22's have enough trouble think about a camaro with 22's your gonna have to run a really low profiles tire and your gonna have a messed up wheel within a pot hole or two.

Never the less though your a thirdgen owner and I will give ya prop for atleast keeping the car from being ragged out. Do what makes you happy and just remember your driveing a camaro and no matter how big or smal the wheels are your still cool for having one.:)

firebirdjosh 10-22-2006 11:56 PM

It's totally improportionate. I think you know almost everyone else's opinion regarding this.

Sinister Z 10-23-2006 02:10 AM

Look it's your car, do whatever you want to do to it, if you think that the 22's will look good...then buy them because you know what most of the people here will tell you if you ask them, now about fitment in the wheel wells, I don't know but if you do a search on some other different web sites that people have put on the 22's on a third gen. Camaro...that would be your best bet to get the information that you need.

purpleZ-28 10-23-2006 02:47 AM

thisll be locked. just like the last one.
you already know our opinion from your last post.
this one will get locked aswell. id put money on it.

CrazyHawaiian 10-23-2006 06:51 AM

My advice, do what you think looks good.

I think its a shame that a thread like this would be locked. Not like its a big deal if someone wants to run something they think looks good. I guess around here if you aren't in with the "norm" then you gotta deal with negative replies and locked threads.

StreetRoc85 350 10-23-2006 12:18 PM

please dont do that, its so tacky and tasteless. its not even that the rims look all that bad (which they do btw) but its more about the image that you present. most people that do rims like that just go for bling and dont really get involved with the actual mechanics of the car. escalades are made for bling, f-bods are made for performance. wouldnt iroc wheels look dumb on an escalade? why do it the other way around?

HOW IT LOOKS TO THE WORLD
17s/18s- my car is a performace vehicle, i care about how my car looks, i take care of my ride, its personal to me

20s/22s- look at me i have big shiny wheels, i dont know about cars but i know how to spend money, want to buy crack from me?

ultimately i have to say that if it makes you happy then go for it and dont listen to me or anyone else that puts em down. but im just trying to help you understand WHY we all say that looks bad...

no offense man, just trying to help:)

jkicak 10-23-2006 12:43 PM

i say do it! put on the 22s and call it a show car. it makes all the rest of our 3rd gens look that much better.

Mr. IROC-Z 10-23-2006 12:52 PM

I followed your last thread and now this one.
Yes, you can fit 22's on the IROC. It will just take some minor mods.
But like another member said recently, you want the car to look proportional throughout. if you do get the 22's I would reccomend you slam the car so the rims tuck as much as possible. of course, this will take a whole new set of suspention work.

In any case, let us know what you decide to go with.
Tommy

kammi10 10-23-2006 04:38 PM

yeah so if the 20's look so good why put 22's on it.? i donpt understand 22's are just too big and will look hidious

deadbird 10-23-2006 04:49 PM

What get's a post like this locked is the comments and/or unnecessary attached pictures that seem to always ensue with no relevance to answering the question.
It seems to be really difficult to give a simple answer, not answer if you have no real input or, even be civil to someone for some reason.

I personally won't lock it if the B.S. banter about how horrid, hideous, pimptastic or, whever term.. can be cut out. That is not speaking for the other mods though.
Just give the guy a descent reply. Weather you like it or not, if you're so compelled to have to answer, at least do it with some tact, please.

It's disapponting to have to lock posts because of peoples maturity level.

I couldn't care less either way about huge wheels.
I don't think 22" wheels on the car would look very good as these are not SUV sized vehicles. There just isn't enough body to make larger (20"+) wheels look like they flow with the cars design.
It will just look awkward if it isn't slammed as IROC-Z stated.

gray89vert 10-23-2006 04:52 PM

car doesn't look bad. but yea what else makes it a show car besides the wheels?

Wesdog 10-23-2006 06:35 PM

Looks one thousand times better than the 80's caprices jacked up with 24's on them.

And those people who like to come in and flame and call names and call people stupid are just people with no lives. They want to get their e-peen all erect and think that talking down to people on the internet makes them cool. The fact is that they would never talk to someone that way in real life. The wouldnt have the cojones.

Saying all that I wouldnt do it. Im going to stick with 15's or 16's just for the ease of use and I would rather have a little higher profile tire for better handling and a little sidewall flex to make the ride more comfortable. But thats just my .02 1/2

Guys have fun and disagree all you want but be nice about it. If you start getting rude it just shows how small of a person you really are.

I don't understand why anyone would want such a big wheel on their car, 18's look nice if done right, but anything bigger looks out of proportion, and strange.

I don't even want to guess how funky it would feel to drive with those mounted, let alone steer the car
Hey, you can do watcha want, but try not to get upset when you get stange looks...... no offense, but I think it looks out of place.

res1bxh3 10-23-2006 08:52 PM

i think they would look alot sicker polished aluminum or maybe put a black strip on the spokes for a little contrast??? but yeah i think slammed to they ground would also make it fill up much nicer

Tony89GTA 10-23-2006 09:24 PM

Got anymore pic's with the 20's ? It would give us a better idea how the 22's might look but right now I think your current wheels look pretty good.

3vi1p3nguin 10-23-2006 10:07 PM

personally I wouldnt put 20s or 22s on mine, cuz i like to play too much, but if your making it into a show car, get some lowering springs, and it may not look too bad. those rims look pretty nice

ARAMOS3 10-23-2006 10:35 PM

I have read everyone opinion regarding whether i should upgrade to 22's and i have come a to a decision. I took into consideration the fact that by having large wheels it makes the car lack performance. So i have decided that im going 2 keep the 20" but im just going 2 get a smaller more low profile tire so when i turn the wheel wont rub as much on the wheel well. And to make up for the big wheels i was thinking of supercahrging the 350 or adding a turbo not sure yet due to the fact that i have to keep the car smog legal for california. What can i do to my 350 that would keep it smog legal. Do cold air intakes work? And does anybody know where i can get it done for my car?http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...3/Photo_41.jpg

Something as simple as spacer might cure that problem but, that is a better suited question for the Suspension / Chassis forum.

A turbo or S/C question is best directed to the Power Adder forum while the CIA (cold air) is more of a Tech / General Engine question.

I am locking this because we came to a conclusion and your other questions are better directed to a different forum. This will also keep the post from being drug up in the future for 'OMG!' comments.

I appreciate the cooperation of keeping things friendly.
