Spray wax Vs paste wax

Wondering which is better. I have heard there is a difference between the two, but what is the difference? NXT wax, Nanowax, turtle wax Ice all are available in a paste or a spray, which one is better. Is the spray just the paste watered down so it can be sprayed?

I work at autozone and have "tested" waxes on a painted surface in the back. Noticed that the pastes usually left a white residue (before wiping) and the sprays did not.

The spray is usually a quick wax to use between a real waxing. If you want a good deep shine, use professional products. Check out www.autogeek.net and www.autopia.org.

Have been doing more reading from various souces and am finding that the spray or pump versions are usullaly the paste wax just "thinned down." I do not know what they thin it with. Which is why you get more net weight in a spray or pump for a lower price. Sprays are not supposed to be as durable/long lasting as the pastes too. Nobody can say how much more durable though.

From what I've read (never tried spray waxes), the spray waxes are not as durable as the paste waxes. As it was said earlier, they are pretty much used between "real" waxing.

The NXT and Turtlewax Ice both give a great shine, but not known for their great durability. It's always a good idea to top them with a real carnauba wax.

Just another tid bit I have been finding out. Wax that is only natural Carnuba will only last 8 or 9 weeks, While Carnuba fortified with synthetics or a wax that is only synthetics can last months.

It is also hard to find a wax that is JUST a wax. Many "waxes" are better classified as cleaner waxes or polishes, they contain fine abraisives. some use chemicals instead of abrasives, ie 3M swirl remover. The only waxes I have found that are pure wax are Meguiars #26 (?) hi tech yellow wax and thei gold class wax, Mothers carnuba wax and 3M's wax. Everything else I have found contains abraisives to "hide swirl marks and scratches."

The best combination for durability IMO is to put a sealant down, then layer carnauba on top of it. Best of both worlds.

Dark Color cars = Poorboys EX sealant + Natty blues Paste Wax :) :idiot: There are some waxes that that are more durable then Nattys but it leaves one hell of a wet finish and last up to a few months as well!

Clearkote has some of the best products out there in my opinion. I'm working on getting my hands on some of their Carnauba Moose Wax and Vanilla Moose Glaze. It leaves an incredible finish from the pictures I've seen and talking to a few people it's fairly durable. If you don't want to go spending a ton of money though, a good all-in-one product you should check out is Optimum Poli-Seal. Check out how it did on this Impala:

Although both turn out to look good, i prefer the paste wax since it turns out better than the spray wax.

i personally love that combo on my 3rd gen as well as many others. You can get it from autogeek.net. . Its pretty cheap for a nuba wax plus it looks great. It add excellent depth/wetness/pretty good protection at a great price.

Heres a car covered with Nattys (not mine)
