cleaning carpet

anyone got any good product ideas for cleaning our carpets? i could do the usual carpet cleaner stuff or hyd. peroxide (which works really well actually) but just wondering if anyone has found other good stuff to use. Oh and just came to mind also, has anyone tried to die or paint or whatever it is their carpet..ive heard you can do that but also wondering about that

How dirty is the carpet? If it is really nasty you might be better taking it out, giving it a good scrubbing, hosing it down and letting it dry outside the car. You could also use s carpet cleaning machine if you have access to one. If you want to do it in the car, scrub it with some carpet shampoo. Then rinse with hot water and a shop vac. Try to get out as much moisture as possible and then let the car sit open for a day or 2 so it completely dries.
As far as dying the carpet - I have heard some people using Rit fabric dye with some sucess. You have to make it into a solution and spray it on.
This guy used Rit.

If you read this thread, towards the end, someone else used Duplicolor spray dye.

don't go with the dye or paint. It rubs off all the high traffic areas.

I just put mine back on the road. In the winter the car port and tarp had developed a leak and, wet the car up pretty bad. A bit of mold and, some anti freeze from when the heater core went out was making the carpets smell and look horrible.
so, I went to the store and (while being skeptical) purchased turtle wax carpet cleaner and, a can of their interior cleaner. Blew my mind at how well it took up the mold and stains.

It was a bit of scrubbing but, it saved me a 200 dollar carpet replacement.

Buy new carpet....but I suggest buying oem cause i bought aftermarket and a ton of trimming.

Re: cleaning carpet

There is no OEM available. ACC is the only game in town, and is the carpet you will get no matter where you buy it. Trimming is not a problem, as long as it fits properly.

Soak your mats in the the bath tub over night and scrub them like mad with your cleaner if they don't clean up very nice thats a good indicator whether or not you should re-do your interior

$290 at Camaro Central for a complete carpet set. Looks like $180 for just the cabin.

Don't know who makes it though... :chevy:

A good brand of carpet cleaner and scub with a brush but don't soak it. Let it dry and vaccum. My turned out very well, but i am the original owner.

Re: cleaning carpet

yeah..for now buying new carpet is not in the works, especially since i am moving to PA at the end of the month, which is why i posed the question. except for a few areas its really not that bad. i didnt want to have to take out the seats and remove the carpet..one of the jobs that i do regularly is commercial carpeting so i should be able to trim it in, but ive gotten a little soured on starting projects on my car..they always take longer than i expected ha.

oh and i dont even have mats..i had the originals ones but they were pretty gross..thats probably my simple short term answer if i cant get it clean, new mats! derr

I have one of those bissell little green machines. Worked well on my interior and carpet. I had to go over the seats and floors three times but it made a dramatic improvement. The machine was $90 and the cleaner was $20. My wife said I could have saved the $20 and used a dishsoap and hydrogen proxide mixture. Those little machines are hard to beat.
