Congratulations to John in RI for being voted in by the TGO Community as January 2015's Car of the Month with his kick-***, LT1-powered '84 Berlinetta.

This car seemed to me like a dark horse going into the competition (what with awesome looks of CharcoalBird's Firebird, plus the stunning quality and seemingly large fan base of 86'sportcoupe's Camaro). it may have been an appreciation for the performance and technical achievement that went into this car that got the win. and it looks pretty killer too.

'Mean Green' was stripped of every nut/bolt and the entire body was stripped to metal (firewall, door sills - everything ) and re-painted a couple years ago. From the factory it was a mild mannered LG4/auto with 3.08's, but it's been converted and modified several times since I bought it back in 92'. Most recent stats:

LT1, LT4 springs, LT4 Knock Sensor, Full Steel RR's, Composite Valve Covers
T56, Stage 3 clutch, Aluminum Shaft, 98' ZT POSI with 4.11's
LS1 Slotted/Drilled Brakes Front/Rear
Jegster SFC, 36mm front, 25mm Rear Bars,
Poly Bushings Front, Rear, Motor Mounts, & Tranny Mount
ZR1 Wheels, 275/40/17's
Dyno Don 1 3/4" Headers, Random Tech 3" Cat, Magnaflow 3" Cat-back
Duel Lier Siegler Conteur Buckets, custom "CAMARO" upholstery
8 Speaker BOSE, 12 Disk CD Changer
4th Gen Keyless Entry, Twilight Sentinal Rear View, AC Delete
Intelletronics Speedo (top speed 1/4 mile, ect... ), 5500 Red-line Tach
Daytona Cowl hood, 87+ Rear Fin / 3rd Brake Light, 'Wet-Arm' Wipers
New Weather-Stripping
ALL power options; Even kept the factory Rear Wiper

Have to vote for a fellow lt1. What's the 1/4 mile time?

Re: January 2015 COTM **WINNER**

THANX TO ALL !

First to Linson for his time and effort keeping up with the COTM here @ TGO. It's a GREAT way to highlight some of the most awesome Thirdgens on the streets today.

I'd also like to congratulate the other members that have been nominated this month - and in past months. There might only be 1 COTM,... but there are surly no "losers". If your ThirdGen got nominated it's because other members appreciate and respect the way you've crafted your ride - TAKE PRIDE !!

I bought Mean Green for $2500 back in 92'. Drove it everyday thru college while delivering pizza in it at night. I've taken it off-road, crashed it into a snow-bank, again into a guard-rail, loaded furniture onto the roof while moving (yes, it's got T-Tops) and spun it 360 degrees off a highway ramp once. ( little too fast into that corner !! ) It's got - almost -as many scars as I do, and I wouldn't want it any other way !!

jaybdaboat - no 1/4 mile times since the LT1 got installed. I had a pretty significant vibration @ 90+MPH when it was first put back on the street. I was going to swap the aluminum shaft and then found the problem,... turned out to be a bad rear flange. Now that It's fixed & I can get past 100 with the car is stable, the 1/4 mile test will happen next spring !!

Again - I'm greatly honored,........ THANX to ALL !!!!

I REALLY can't say thank you enough guys ! It sure has been a long haul and my ride would NOT be what it is today without the help from MANY of the members here over the years.

Not only does being recognized as TGO COTM bring me a certain level of self-pride, but it also allows me to 'keep even' when it comes to braggin' rights with my little bro,... his car was voted COTM on the IMPALA forum a few months back !

Chevy pride runs pretty deep around here !

Nice car... but how does a car reach this level of detailed restoration without having blisters or louvers bolted onto it? It looks unfinished?

John in RI 01-08-2015 11:21 AM

Re: January 2015 COTM **WINNER**

The pic that was posted when it got nominated shows the louvers installed.

http://berlinetta.info/NECF/FallCruise14.jpg

The top pic above is one that I posted in the voting thread, it was taken just before the Louvers , Magniflow Cat back and CSR electric water pump got installed. There's another pic I posted showing the front suspension - and there's no motor installed in that pic but obviously,... the motor is installed now. Still really can't call it 'finished', I've still got to paint all the 'nose holes' black and re-install the rear wiper Hatch Louvers too.

I just didn't have many pics from last season & realized that the ones I did have from meets/gatherings usually had the hood open,... so I used the pics I had available.

Thank You !!!

Still looking forward to getting close to that Pontiac of yours for a closer look. Easily one of the finest restorations I've seen in years. With any luck we will meet up at one of the New England meet-&-greets this season !
