Winter Storage.. sad and satisfying As much a bummer it is to put the car away for winter there is something satisfying about cleaning, waxing, vacuuming, dusting changing the oil and covering the car for the winter.. I got so consumed with projects on the house and the barn that the IROC got covered in so much dust and I actually had to wash it for the second time in three years.. So much rain the past two months too.. had a flooded basement among other distractions, but had one 50 degree, sunny day to get the car all set before freezing temps arrive.. I put a Polymer Sealant on it and covered it up.. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...c7e2021c1.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...d7fae56da.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...fca8e7ecf.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...08ad76ee9.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...ba8eabc84.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...2cee51ed0.jpeg |
Re: Winter Storage.. sad and satisfying Looking good! Are those Rhino ramps? |
Re: Winter Storage.. sad and satisfying Thanks! Yup, Rhino indeed.. super light and they fit right under the front spoiler.. With my old yellow ramps I had in the 90s I had to drive up on 2x4s to clear the front spoiler.. |

Re: Winter Storage.. sad and satisfying Your IROC looks beautiful. I understand that it's hard to put them away though. She'll be waiting for you in the spring. I really like my Rhino ramps. But same problem I've had with other ramps, they would scoot away rather than letting the tires roll up on them. I mounted mine to some plywood with a very thin tapered edge, It added a lot of weight, gave me a very easy approach, and with stainless screws through the center and perimeter, they can never spread or collapse. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...7af3ae9a21.png https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...ml#post6118870 |
Re: Winter Storage.. sad and satisfying My ramps haven’t scooted on me, but I stick them right under the tires and slowly go up.. I think they grip my driveway really well but maybe on cement or in the garage they might scoot.. That’s a good Idea using plywood.. Im just glad they’re light and clear the front end.. Not a ton of room to work, but good enough for now.. |
Re: Winter Storage.. sad and satisfying I was skeptical about the plastic too kentuckyKITT but the weight load would hold my Tahoe easy so I went with them.. they stack nicely and weigh nothing compared to the metal ones.. My metal ones would scoot now and again.. I don’t miss those.. |

Ha ha! I need a security animal! Shes a pretty good little garage buddy lol. Every time I go downstairs to the garage, she HAS to go with me. Now if I could just train her to grab tools, rags, etc, itd be great hehe https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...ace02d5591.jpg |

Re: Winter Storage.. sad and satisfying The 3rd gens pulled off the nearly impossible. They created a convertible that actually looks good with the top up, a rare feat. |

Unlike this clunky thing.. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...b4e2255f4.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...7ed40dab5.jpeg Would be interesting to see a fiberglass hardtop like they make for the Miata: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...ff9147aa9.jpeg ...or if they made a hardtop IROC with a trunk instead of a hatch like the Mustang Notchback.. Might have saved weight and looked similar to a Vert with the top up.. |
