door molding hey im getting a new paint job and the20 door dings on each side taken out of my car. so this doesnt happen again with my new paint i want to get molding. does anyone know where i can get like factory style door molding? and how is it held on, by sticky stuff of by clips? thanks bub |
The molding is actually riveted to the panels. It's got metal 'slides' that hold on the plastic and rubber. IMO, the molding on the side of 3rd gens looks like crap. I wouldn't get it if I were you. |
The beltline molding on my 88 and both 89's is applied with double sided tape, from the factory. I'm talking about the door protective molding halfway up the doors, and Camaro IROC & RS's. You can get "generic" stuff from an Auto Paint store. |
My base 87 camaro Had black Molding that was double sided tape and it was Orginal id know We have had the car Sinces 1987 |
mine was the tape too,,and I don't think it looks bad,,I think its well worth it . |
ok thank guys. does anyone have pictures of ur molding and maybe some websites that i could get it from? bub |
Sorry dude, I guess I gave you a bum scoop. I just stripped an '86 Trans Am and that stuff was riveted on. I guess I just figured everything else would be the same. I've seen the double-sided tape type of molding you're looking for, but I don't remember where it was. You should probably go to a GM dealer and pay the extra cash to get it from them so you know the stuff will fit. That way it won't be an Autozone 'hack job'. I just found a website that has the stuff, maybe you're interested? It is a little expensive like I though it would be from GM! Here's the site: http://www.auto-parts-for-less.com/ |
ok, thanks for the info. ill look into it bub |
