4th gen seats

Do 4th gen seats bolt right into a third gen. Ive heard you need to drill holes to make them work.

deadbird 10-22-2002 12:23 AM

Direct 100% no-mod bolt-in perfect fit.

Lookie Lookie!!! I got mine to work after 3 days of modification! I was about to give up. :D :D :D :D :D

100% bolt in unless you have a split fold rear seat then you need to loose the little bar thingy on the drive shaft tunnel....right?

Kj Rockz 10-23-2002 11:41 PM

Just to confirm.

I do beilve that they MIGHT fit.

I can neither confirm, nor deny that.
But I have it on good athority that they will fit.

I also have it on good athority that they wont fit.

I guess you will have it work, or it wont work...

bj350hp 10-24-2002 01:51 AM

Duct tape and bubble gum.

(in case it was a serious question...just used all the existing hardware. no mods) :D

FyreLance 10-24-2002 09:22 AM

Duct tape and bubble gum.

LOL

FLYNLOW92rs 10-24-2002 10:24 AM

So wait a second........I can actually remove the seats from a 4th Gen and place them directly in a 3rd Gen......????

But the body styles are different.......???

I wouldn't recommend doing this swap, you need to remove the engine for saftey precautions so it can be a long drawn out process......;)......plus you need a engine lift....

wait do you have to take the doors off too???
how about the rear hatch, to get the rear seats in??
lol :D

FyreLance 10-24-2002 12:46 PM

I heard you need one of those chassis roller thingies. Also, I heard that the swap isn't possible with hardtops, need t-tops or a convertible to get the seats in.

spartyon 10-24-2002 12:58 PM

seats? what are seats?

Z288Iroc 10-24-2002 01:36 PM

So what do you do after you drop the tank. Cant get mine to work, what kind of bubble gum did you use... Damnit anybody wanna buy a set of 4th gen seats. Thanks for the help guys.

deadbird 10-24-2002 02:39 PM

:sillylol: You guys are rotten  :D

TheLG4Whore 10-27-2002 05:30 PM

I thought it went something like you had to weld in subframe connectors and a main hoop from a six point roll bar and then drill and tap the upper left side of the passenger side seat whith the car in park.
But I could have heard wrong.
I once had a friend that did that swap and he had to get his front end aligned.
Good luck on the this very challenging swap, it will be a long hard road but worth it.

Abubaca 10-27-2002 11:43 PM

You guys are such jerks. The guy asked a simple question....it only required a simple answer.

YES, they do bolt right in.

Of course, you'll have to bolt the rear seat in backwards...kinda like the old caprice station wagons....or it won't fit. If you want your passengers to face forward, then it's a different story all together.

See i had my car in Neutral when i tried it and i had to replace the coolant overflow tank because it broke, I got it fixed though............;) :D

racereno 10-28-2002 09:25 AM

I'm SOOOOOO confused!

9-FIREBIRD-2 10-28-2002 01:14 PM

seats

YOUR ALL WRONG !!!!! You have to take the carpet out first, then install the seats, then put the carpet back in ! If you don't then the heater won't work.

mess21 10-28-2002 02:50 PM

i know that the seats are a direct fit but the door panles aren't right

Nope the door panels don't fit right in......

mess21 10-28-2002 04:04 PM

any way to make them fit probally not worth it though huh

fast83camaro 10-28-2002 05:16 PM

Wait a minute, I had to cut the roof off of mine to get the back seat in because it wouldn't fit through the doors or the hatch! I guess next time ill know just to cut the car in half, it'll save alot of trouble!:D :D :D :D :D

kidcamarosc 10-28-2002 07:13 PM

i heard that if you have a 305tbi the seats will not work since the engine is such a torque monster it will actually rip the seats off the of the floor:p

TheLG4Whore 10-28-2002 10:20 PM

well actually I've learned from my experience that you should install a wheelie bar and a 4 link rear suspension cause the 4th gen seats completely mess up your weight distribution when running under 15,000+ feet altitude.
I could be wrong but I had a near death experiance when I floored it in 5th gear after my 4th gen seat swap, the car almost completely flipped over and so on.
and for a safety precaution you might wanna consider a pre-'75 dual points distributor setup but that's only for safety purposes.
I've also found that oil pan windage trays help when running the seat swap without the proper suspension setup.
Hope I was helpful.
peace

jgifford 10-30-2002 03:52 PM

:sillylol: :sillylol: :sillylol: :sillylol: :sillylol: Thanx I needed that, started to turn into a bad day. And as far as the seats go, the modifactions, and yes there was at least one, was the power, if the seats are powered, be sure and get the harness. I think it's worth it, I love mine.

ajm_shorty 10-30-2002 09:13 PM

Huh

I have Power Seats..Can i just splice the wires?

Or do i gotta Rip the doors, hatch, hood, groundeffects off? The hood has a light that takes to much power and your car dies with it on there. Doors need to come off for the front seats to come out and put the 4th gen in. Hatch comes off for the back seats. Groundeffect got to come off or you will scratch them.

Saywhut 10-30-2002 11:01 PM

Hey, does anybody know if 89 IROC seats will fit in a 89 RS?

What would I have to do to make 'em fit?

If they were power IROC seats, and I wanted to put 'em in a RS that had power seats, would I have to swap the IROC harness also? I was thinkin' I could just wire them into the cigarette lighter, then all I'd have to do would be hold the liter in with one hand and adjust the seats with the other. Maybe.

FLYNLOW92rs 10-31-2002 12:29 AM

YES, they do bolt right in.
Stop lying to the poor kid............

Z28DJP1987 11-02-2002 07:44 AM

My personal opinion is that all you "so called comics" have had your fun with this question, so put it to rest. The real impression I get is you are AH's and have no knowledge of the subject or did this conversion.

fast83camaro 11-02-2002 01:49 PM

I do have knowledge on this topic! Why? because I actually searched and looked at other 4th-gen seat swap threads that other people have posted. Now, see how much grief, time, and frustration that silly little mistake of the guy not searching, or looking for another thread on 4th-gen seat swap caused? Now, I know I replied with a stupid post, but we all joke around right? I think this thread should be closed!

Z28DJP1987 11-02-2002 02:05 PM

That would be the smartest thing said about this Post lately.
