Dropped dash pad screw in defrost vent

I recently replaced my speedo cable and had the dash pad off but when I went to put it back on I didn't put a cloth in the defrost vent and dropped one of the screws into the vent. I tried to get the screw out of the vent with a magnet on a string but the magnet kept sticking to something metal and eventually broke my string, =). I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to get into the duct work to remove such things, =).

Thanks

I did that a long time ago with my firebird putting new front speakers in, never got it back. After awhile, you just forget you even lost it ... :)

I did that after placing the 4 radio screws up there. I used one of those handy dandy antenna magnets (it extends out just like the antenna on a radio). Worked great!

Really all you can do if the magnet trick doesn't work is take the dash apart and remove the duct. It's not gonna hurt anything if you leave it in there, worst case scenario is that it'll rattle and drive you nuts :D

been there...done that...what i did was tie a string around a small and strong piece of magnet...lowered it in there....and pulled it out real slow...took a couple of tries...but got it outta there....no rattle for me thanks...

I just dropped the most important socket down there last week. The favored 9/32 that fits almost every trim screw top in the car. I just left it for now and will try and get it with the telescopic magnet as described above later next week.
