That was just a link to the product page...Sorry if I wasn't clear.
The Plastic repair link is on the left of the page

83 Crossfire TA 02-03-2007 05:39 AM

They list:
Super Fast AdhesiveFast Urethane Adhesive
Medium Urethane Adhesive
Semi-Rigid Epoxy Adhesive

Here: http://www.evercoat.com/productCategory.aspx?cat=6

Any specific one for what we’re talking about or all of them work well?

luke-gr 02-03-2007 08:35 AM

I notice there is a Super Fast, Fast, and Medium. I dont think you want the semi-rigid from what Kevin has said here earlier in the thread. Almost sounds to me like the other three are just different work times.....but I could be wrong.

KEVIN G. 02-06-2007 05:59 PM

Yeah the medium is ok for what you will normally repair. They are just longer set times.

How about something to make a really small repair without putting myself >$50 in the hole?

Here's my bowtie grill. Should I use the methods described at the begining of this sticky make this repair. You can see how the finish is cracked. I was planning on just filling the cracks with two part epoxy, sanding and painting black the same day the car is painted witht the same paint. Does that sound liek the best course of action with this repair?

83 Soory I haven't been on in months... That is kind of a tricky spot. You do need to repair the inside as well as the outside on that tear, but it has to be thin enough to allow your retaining bracket ot go in the groove. Just use my method and it will be strong. Use a Popsicle stick on the inside to smooth it around and keep it thin without it gobbing up and restricting the palcement of your bracket.

Rebel, I cant see the damage in that picture. Could you increase the size?
If it's just paint damaged and split, sand it off and prime and paint.
As for the flex...you only need it on the plastic panels.

Is the flexible skim coat epoxy an item that any paint store should be familiar with? Do you have any product numbers for reference for what you've used in the past? I'm thinking about going the 3M EasySand route.

I also have a question about spider web type cracks in the base plastic. I've started sanding mine down and the these cracks go through all the paint and primer and are clearly evident in the spoiler itself. Do I have to continue sanding until I get them out too? (I'm worried about keeping it even if I have to go that route) Or can I put the 3m easy sand (or equivelent) over the top to seal it and prevent it from cracking the new paint?

How would you repair a plastic thread?
The one in my spoiler are old and fragile. I was thinking of cleaning them, then glue it with a PU glue. Screw inside it with grease/oil on the screw.
What do you think?

Edit: I am thinking that it might be ABS and not Urethane. Correct me if I am wrong.

I really like the patern in the lower left corner... I know its cracks but it would be kickass if you could simulate that effect into a paintjob.

I have been having a hell of a time trying to repair the new front lip I got... This is not as easy as you think.

Two questions, first: would it be possible to fix the two cracks? and if so what would the be the best way to go about fixing them? The cracks are in the front clip and on the passenger side ground effect. Pictures attached.

Bump, could this process be used on a corner of a front bumper? If so how would I go about getting it to stay in a good shape while the product held/cured, instead of breaking apart?

If you look at some of the videos within the link i posted, They use tape. Thats what i use and then sand down any imperfections. If you are able, Please post pics. Im sure someone with more experience will be able to help you.

i know this thread started a whie ago, but i am trying to come up with a way to repair my wraparound spoiler(even if only for a while). would the 3m products work wellfor filling the cracks in the side corners? i have used it in repairing bumper covers with the sheet of reinforcment behind the repair and it works great but wasnt sure if it would fill very well on a spoiler. the only other problem the spoiler has is the paint is cracked on top. looks like someone didnt add flex agent when painting then some moron sat on thspoiler and the paint cracked(only cracked in the butt area on either side. going down through the thread it sounds like the 3m products should work at least for a while, just trying to buy some time before having to do the inevitible and spending a bunch of mone for a new one. who knows, maybe someone will have them cheaper.

WTF???
Nobody mentioned duct tape and rattle cans.

Just kidding ... great info Kevin.
The PO of my car thought it would be amusing to enter driveways at the fastest speed possible without lising control. Then some lowered import steaming pile of sh!t decided to t-bone me so the drivers door was trashed along with the quarter and the ground efx. Gonna fix the ground efx and get the door and quarter replaced . Gonna also delete the nose emblem then get it painted.
this article will help with the ground efx.

Or you could utilize plastic welding.

I want to join a camaro lower half front cover to a firebird upper half cover. I have seen pics of it where you cut the front covers in half then rejoin them. My question is better to weld or will epoxy hold up?

I'm a big believer in Bondo. I use it to fill holes, fix dents and even brackets. The front end was sticking out of my car due to a broken bracket. I just put a scoop of bondo between the front end and the fender, put pressure on it for about fifteen mins, then wham bam thank you ma'am. Good as new

so, since were talking about plastic/ fiberglass repair do you think the bumper in the picture should be repaired or replaced? I was told by a paint/ body (emphasis on paint being his first choice of work) that I would be better off replacing it. as far as I can tell it doesn't have any cracks in it, just the messed up paint.

Re: Let's take the guesswork out of plastic repair!!!!!!!

What could you possibly have to lose by attempting the repair yourself?

You can't make it look worse unless you try to do the whole job with a chainsaw, and paint thrown from a trebouchet.

These are our hobby cars. We can go as slow as we need to to deal with the small issues. Not like the hurry-up-to-the-next-job professional shops that look at our cars and run away with their hair on fire.

If you can repaint a bicycle without it looking a complete mess, you can probably do a decent job filling the damage, and repainting the bumper on a third gen Camaro.

Re: Let's take the guesswork out of plastic repair!!!!!!!

Well, W.e.g, you've inspired me lol. in an attempt to keep as much of the original car in tact as possible I've started sanding down the bumper today (after finishing the removal of 20 yr old tint on the back windshield but that's another story completly) but I do have a question, should I completly strip the bumper or just sand down the really badly cracked spots and use a filler to re-level it?

Re: Let's take the guesswork out of plastic repair!!!!!!!

Guys, Sorry for the long hiatus, I finally got my account back. I came to North Carolina to make a career move, and lost access to my account. I have been meaning to PM the owners of ThirdGen.org for years, but never did.

I finally contacted them for a terrible reason. Sadly I had to let my beautiful Aero go...Mice got to the engine harness and the interior, as well as behind the dash. I was heartbroken. NC is an inspection state, and the car would not pass without additional work. so I let it sit, and that's what did it in. I had that car stored in the winters in Michigan for 20 years. Each year I got it out in the spring/summer without so much as a turd...A year after bringing it down here, it developed an engine miss, and several things were not working that I know did not fail out of the blue. After some diag...all the evidence I needed was right there.

I will try to help out once in a while, as I may pop in, but right now...I'm too bummed when I look at some of your beautiful cars.

In the next few days/weeks I will be listing some of the parts I have left, in the classified section. I had re-registered a couple months ago in an alternate name, to move some of this stuff...and found a member that needed the hatch shade. We worked a deal, and I think he's very happy.
I am honest about any of the parts I have...and am happy to help another member.
Let's keep 'em alive guys....
