Undercoating question

is there a good brand name undercoating that comes in a can that can be used to pray on parts of the underbody after its been sanded?...does it last for a long time?...any additional information on undercoating is appreciated...(I was thinking about coating my SFC and the metal around it)...any opinions or advice?

i used 3m's undercoating and it works pretty well. i used it to undercoat the floors and used por15 on the a-arms and some suspension parts.

Use POR-15 on everything. I used 2 coats on the entire underbody and 3 thick coats in the wheel wells. And I had my interior out, and you are supposed to toss one coat on the inside, so i did. I bet this thing will never rust. More than worth the price and effort. No one wants to toss big bucks in a car, just to have it rust away. Hope this helps.

thanks for the info....also, does paint need to be applied to the bare metal of the underbody before undercoating, or can the surface rust just be sanded and the coating applied to the metal once its all clean?

the undersoating works best on the metal itself. That way there is no weakest link paint. If somehting does have paint on it down there, you will be better off getting the paint off of it and coating it.
