Definitely NOT! You've got some broken glass and a broken side mirror, that's what you have. Tell the insurance company to go kick rocks!!

Looks OK to me. With the prices of body parts You should just replace everything that got dinked up and have it repainted.

If you were closer I'd help you.

If they total it, buy it back.

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

The only thing that I'd be concerned about is that pillar and the front of the top. If nothing is dented (which it doesn't look like it is), you're good to go. I don't see any damage to the frame. The damage is rather shallow.

I wouldn't call it a total at all.

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks guys..maybe one of you can show up when the insurance people do. tell them not to total it.

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

the insurance company said the car is totaled. its seems BS to me, but there say there going to give me 1200bucks for them to just take it away. they also said if i buy back the camaro they are going to give me 1000 bucks back..and i can keep car. but id have to buy it back and it becomes an r-title car. i really don't know how this all works. i was thinking just to take the 1200 and run. but id have the car to take stuff off of and sell. would that be a better plan then....i dont want to go though a big hassle right now...i have another car. but it getting fixed soon and its undriveable.

can someone give me a little advice or something...if they have gone through this S**T

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

A Rebuilt/Reconstructed vehicle is a salvage vehicle that has been repaired and restored to operation. These vehicles are often severely damaged before they are rebuilt and refurbished parts are typically used during reconstruction. In most states, an inspection of the vehicle is required before the vehicle is allowed to return to the road.

which alls im replacing is a windsheild and a door....hurray not very hard.

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

Assuming there's nothing wrong with it, other than the windshield and a scratched door, I'd just buy it back and fix it. You'll probably even have some left over cash. when you're done. And I'm sure it'd pass inspection without a problem.

As for it being a R-title that'll only come back to get you when you're trying to sell the car. What you could do to help, is take a few good pictures of the damage (better than the ones you posted here) and put a little description of how bad it was. I'm sure that if you included the part of the story about your insurance company trying to chinch and total it instead of fixing it, you might get some sympathy from some future buyers. I'd stash it in the trunk compartment.

This kinda reminds me of the story about my dad's stratus. The car was doomed to begin with. It had a curse. It was hit by a garage twice, and a tree once. It wasn't moving during any of these accidents, and no one was around it. Like I said, cursed.

The garage only dented the door and one of the fenders. We got a new fender, painted it, and put it on, and nobody knew it.

When the tree hit it, it was nobody's fault. It was the neighbor's tree, so my dad's insurance company said that the neighbor's home owner's insurance would have to cover it. The neighbor's home owner's insurance said that the car's insurance would have to cover it. In the end, nobody would cover it. I guess the good side is that it didn't get totaled. It should've. The unibody on it was so bent up, it was perplexing. The windshield completely caved in, and the hood took the shape of the engine beneath it (kinda neat, really). It still ran, so we bondo'd the hood up and spray painted it (didn't match, but wouldn't have looked good anyways).

But I digress. Insurance companies are liars and cheats. Don't let the lizard or the cute redhead fool you. They're no better than lawyers or politicians.

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

and i agree with what you say. so im going to buy it back and fix it in the mean time. then drive for a lil, while i fix my dads 1988 jeep camanchee. but i might have to part it out or sell it as a whole car to someone.

thanks for replying

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

Totaled doesnt mean scrap metal.....The way it works is the insurance company places a $ value on your car, if they estimate that the cost of repairs would be over 80% or so of the value of the car, they say its totaled. Its just a way for them to save money. There are many Rebuilt-Salavage titled vehicles on the road these days, theres even companies that buy totaled cars to just fix them and sell them for cheap. So I say if you got the ability to fix it, buy the car and get it back on the road.

heeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyy hell no that car is not totaled they are only doing that to make these models rare and more money to get insurance on if you do let them total it i will buy the whole car from you because that bull **** man thats not even enough damage but what ever floats there boat man pm me if you still have the car

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

You need a door *maybe a fender),windshield, and a mirror it seems. Most of which could be had from a junkyard for 100$ or less. I picked up two doors from a 91 rs at a local pick a part for 150$ including the mirror assembly and everything. If I were you I wouldn't let them total it and just vouch to keep it and not have them pay for it to be fixed. If that is possible. A salvage title car can be considered junk and most people wont want to pay anything for them. especially down the road.

Mine was considered totaled in this:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1618312_n.jpg

And only $2000 later it looks brand new:

so KEEP IT! It is just a bump in the cars life, not an end!

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

man that car is way far from totalled, my car was way worse when i got it and I am currently fixing it, needs new fenders, a windshield, a tranny, rear quarters need rust repair, floor pan is rotted through on the passenger side, and the motro is close to shot. I plan on getting it looking good and putting a v8 in it for less than 1000 bucks altogether including paying the local shop to weld the floor pan in after i form it, and doing a rustoleum roll on paint job..... in other words save it it will be cheap

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

I would take some very good pictures of the damage and keep the pics. Then if you ever sell it and get questioned about the title, you can explain to them and show pics that there was very little damage but the ins. company wanted to tatal it due to cost of parts vs. the car's value.

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

i would keep the car for sure my brother went thru the same thing over a messed up fender and hood and was told that car was totaled but he took the money and kept the car in order to be able to keep the car he did have to get a salvaged title for it whichis what im guessind you mean by an "r- title" but the thing id after you fix the car you can have it inspected at the DMV for a small fee like $25 or so and get the title restored to a regular title well thats how it works here in arizona i dont think it will be too different were your at i would definately keep it

travis401 05-18-2010 04:58 PM

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

A salvage title and an rebuilt salvage title are two totally different things. If the car has just a salvage title, it cant be street legal. A rebuilt salvage title is what a salvage title turns into after a representative from the DMV inspects it and deems it road worthy. For it to pass the inspection, everything that came stock on the vehicle has to be there and in working order. And from the rest of the cars life, the vehicle will have the rebuilt salvage title, theres no way to LEGALLY change that. It will make it a little more difficult to sell, but thats about the only problems youll have with it. Inspections and emissions testing will be the same as a clear titled vehicle.

they totaled mine, gave me $2500 for it, sold it back to me for $100 and i made it what it is now for about $1100 (not counting the motor swap, tranny rebuild and custom exhaust) so for $1200 with $1300 going in my pocket remember, i went from this
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member...831_8_full.jpg
to this
http://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_i...0027_large.jpg
moral of the story: keep the car!

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

Dumb question...

WHY EVEN MAKE A CLAIM??

If the insurance will total your ride for 1000 why even have full coverage?

My thirdgens have liability only on them. With the value so low the extra I pay a month will never pay off.

Call a autoglass place and get a new mirror. 300 bux later and its all good. No title BS. No hassles.

travis401 05-19-2010 06:43 PM

Re: HOPEFULLY NOT TOTALED!!!!!!!!!!!

Liability only covers the people you hit. If your car gets scratched and needs new paint, youre paying out of your pocket. The down side is our cars are valued so low, it doesnt take much damage for insurance companies to write it off as a total loss. If you get full coverage from a decent place, the insurance company will do a thorough inspection and place a (usually much higher) value on the car, including any modifications (as long as theyre legal). So if you have an a**ton of money in restoration/mods, full coverage is the way to go.

But if the pillar is damaged the strength in the roof. Basically if it rolls you're screwed. Saw it alot when I work at a body shop.
