Door removal.

I bought andyz28's door hinge repair kit, do I absolutely have to remove my door to do this repair?

No, in theory. However, you will need access for a grinder, drill, wrenches, die grinder, ect. It would go easier w/ door removed.

Re: Door removal.

Some customers prefer to remove the door to do the job. I own a door hanging tool to do the job on my customers cars. Of course it doesn't make sense to invest in the tool if you are only doing your own door(s). There is a tool available from STECK for around $100 called the EZ-Rest door hanging tool. It replaces the saddle on most floor jacks with a padded foam structure in the shapd of a "U" to hold the door in place while you are working on it. Alternatively, there are solutions to holding the door in place using common tools you should have in your garage. You can use a floor jack and ladder. You support the bottom of the door with the floor jack, then set up the ladder so it forms an "A" slip the jack over the top of the opened door, then stuff the gap between the door and ladder with towels or rags. This will allow you to pull the door back the few inches needed to re-size the holes for the new upper bushings. Another method is to use a nylon strap with an engine lift (aka cherry picker), come-a-long or winch. Slip the strap ove the door and lift. It will take some care to make sure the strap is centered on the door.
