Re: Glass roof

It could be done, but likely cost more than the car is worth. You would have to make a channel for the glass with all necessary support to hold the weight and body twist.
Then a glass panel would have to be made to fit the channel and match the contour of the roof. That is a big expense.

Re: Glass roof

Why do a fixed glass roof? I used to install sun-roofs way back in the day and installed a few on Camaro/Firebird for owners including two sliding moon roofs. You're looking at more work to install a fixed one vs. a functioning sunroof. You may as well do a targa roof like some Corvettes or Simon and Simon Camaro and make the entire lift off roof acrylic to save weight. Still a ton of work though! If you do this, I'll subscribe. Be interesting to see!

Re: Glass roof

I would think you would need to stiffen the car first, ie subframe connectors, stiffen the roof structure a little with some extra bracing, and make some kind of channel to rest your "glass" in. For the glass, You might be able to find something in a junkyard that would match the contours of the roof. Some windshield or hatchback glass. In the all too likely possibility that you don't find something just right, you could try making one out of lexan. Get a hardtop roof as a template and shape a piece of thick lexan or acrylic. Not sure of the strength, durability, or longevity of a lexan roof.

If you make it happen it will be so sweet.

I have a Mustang with a glass roof and it's a pretty cool option even though it doesn't open. I think it would be out of place on a third gen though
