Pesky hood-bumper gap on 84 z28

I want to know if there’s a way to close the hood-bumper gap that’s visible in the photo. I just had the bumper replaced and repainted but I’ve had this little gap before. Any suggestions?

The hood needs to come down, or the bumper up. Everything is adjustable. If the hood is above the fenders, try lowering the hood latch, and adjust the plastic snubbers as necessary. If the hood is even with the fenders, you can loosen the bolts that retain the front bumper supports, slide it up and tighten them. In extreme situations you might need to use shims under panels, or open up mounting slots, but there is really a lot of adjustment in the body.

appreciate the help! The good is even with the fenders so it sounds like i need to bring up the bumper a bit. Are the bolts that retain the front bumper supports the ones under the hood? And in what way do I slide them up? Thanks.

On both sides of the center, just inside of the headlights there are two brackets from the front bumper support to the radiator support. If you look closely, there are two bolts to the rad support, and two bolts to the bumper support on each one. In the middle of the bracket you'll see two more bolts that hold each bracket together. Loosen the last part of bolts just far enough you can move the two halves of the bracket from each other, move the bumper support up a little in the middle and tighten the bolts. Go slow make small changes and check alignment.

Having trouble locating the bolts you were talking about. This is what I found when looking under the hood

thanks, so loosening these four bolts will allow me to slide the bumper up a bit, and then tighten them back?

Not entirely, because if you dont also loosen the two bolts in the center brace(below the hood latch).Plus two more 10mm nuts on that same brace, but to the bumper (dead center). You would be able to move it (bumper) up much or down for that matter.

Try moving the hood UP on the windshield side, and down by the bumper. The hood's "level" alignment with the fenders will move a little in theory, but using small adjustments, can't really be seen. The hood to bumper gap however, will really show a difference. Basically you're trading alignment that can't really be seen for alignment that sticks out like a sore thumb!

...looking at your pic, looks like you have a smidge more gap on the passenger side. Might try just lowering the stop on that side.

I already lowered the passenger side hood stop all the way but the hood didn’t lower at all.

Look on the hood hinges for the stop bumpers. If you pop the rubber cap off the top, you can crank the adjustment screw up or down. There's also a rubber snubber in the bottom of the hood behind the cowl seal.

Yeah, I kinda forgot about the center support bracket on the front bumper. In front of the hood latch support on the bottom side there's a short bracket that anchors the headlight bar at the center. Sorry about that, it's been a couple years since I was under the Camaro, and the Firebird is completely different.

To lower the hood at the front, you can also lower the hood latch, but the more you lower it the harder it is to close the hood.

When I raised my hood up a hair by the windshield, it actually lowered the front just a hair. -small moves though. -and not saying it'll work for you, but it worked for me. Anyhow, that rubber bumper in the pic hits the backside of the hinge. The higher UP that black bumper, the sooner it'll hit the hinge and stop closing.
