Accident with ramps.
 

I wanted to inspect my rear suspension of my 91 z28 camaro and used such ramps to drive backwards on.
And then it happened. The tires slipped them through and they crashed in under the car next to the rear factory jack points.
The impact seems high enough to bent the body.
Driver side door stood open and now I have to lift the door hard for closing it
And the other problem is the roof.. It's dented.

Is there hope to get it straight again in a frame/body shop?

It surprises me that it flexed that much. That sucks. Go get a jack and stands when all this is over and ditch the ramps

if it legitimately caused that roof damage from flexing then you’ve got a problem. You’re just gonna have to take it to a body shop with a frame machine. I’d like to hear what they say too keep us updated

That's a shame; those auto-parts-store "ramps" are mostly a POS and should be outlawed. I don't have any body shop advice for you other than GL finding a shop that'll take on the task.


As already mentioned, once you're past this, put those ramps out on the curb for the junk man and get yourself a good floor jack and at least one pair of sturdy jack stands.

Oh man. That sucks. What a freak accident. I suppose the cars weren't designed for hits like that. Must've put quite a lot of tensile pull on the top of the car when the rails hit the stands. My guess is the frame shop could probably get the frame correct but the body would need body work. That sheet metal on the roof has been stretched.

It's no big deal, just flip it over and drop it again. For every action, there's an equal and opposite reaction. :eek:

Looks like the car flexed where the T-bar mounts to the abbreviated roof skin. It's entirely possible that wrinkle could come out when the car is flexed the opposite direction. Unfortunately, it's gonna take a shop with unibody experience and a rack to properly counteract the forces. That adds up to money.

Sorry about the damage, I know that must feel sickening.

General advice for people: Ramps are handy but never drive up ramps with the drive wheels. The torque can just kick the ramps under the car.

Now I know that.
I used them so many times but mostly on fwd cars if there had to be changed the exhaust.
Today the car is going to a workshop to hear if it's possible
They say they have a frame machine to put the car on.
I hope they also know how to use it. To put the right force on the right spots.

Was no successful day.
I removed the side skirts to have a look onto the metal. It's like a bow. The 4 workshops I've been don't have the tools to fix this.
Over here in Germany there is as good as no knowledge about those cars.

I just bought 67 inch long Race Ramps and can back up them easily. I hated my other regular steel ramps and getting these cars off the ground absolutely suck. A trick for going up ramps is to put a mirror by you car and you can see it much better. Sucks this happened. Good luck getting it fixed. A frame shop should be able to get is straight if you can find one there in Germany to deal with it. They need a factory chassis manual to get the correct measurements. If you can locate one with frame dimensions and measure points they may be able to help you out then. Link below may help.

Oh my, you have my sympathies. This is such unfortunate luck. Thank you for sharing, hopefully this post serves as a warning to others. Best of luck on the repairs.
