Swapping Lexan to Glass T-tops

Hi everyone I have a 1992 Z28 with the lexan tops, this weekend I found a set online for a good price by the beach so I said screw it I’ll pick em up then head to the beach. Once I got there they were in the bag and all I looks at was the seals and no scratches. Of course in a hurry to get to the beach didn’t notice the latch mechanism is the hook type. Mine currently has the big pin style. After noticing I thought I’m sure it’s interchangeable so I took it apart and insides look similar, just not sure how to get to those Phillip heads holding down the mechanism itself am I supposed to tear apart the seal? And am I wasting my time, will it not even work? It’s so much harder than I thought to come by the big pin style. Did some searching just now and most are the smaller pin. Any help would be appreciated!

Put em back together, and put em on Craigslist or whatever. It kinda goes without saying, you really need to stick a lot closer to the same year as the car you intend to use parts on. The hook style was very early, like 82-84ish. If you want them to drop into a 1992 without changing the weatherstrips, you should be looking for a set from about 90-92. Even then you still might have to change the weatherstrips because GM continued making minor changes to make minor improvements all the way to the end of production.

You might be able to cobble something and make the early ttops work, but they'll never be correct.

It’s difficult when there just aren’t that many big pin style t-tops from what I’ve seen. So whatever I get I’m most likely gonna need to modify. If it’s possible to do it with these I might as well I have them on hand and they’re in amazing shape. Perhaps switch the receivers to hook style will suffice but that’s just as difficult as finding big pin t-tops! Lol

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the hook tops you have, they have a thin metal frame all the way around the edges?

Somewhat. Slots are so small a drill for the pin to slide through would suffice

Have you set the tops in the car to see how poorly they fit yet? There's enough difference between my 87 and the 91 Firebird I had, that the tops wouldn't even fit, regardless of retaining method.
