I have a 85 base coupe and was looking for options on new brake calipers, not needing to upgrade brakeing just replace oem old sticking factory cast ones and loose a couple pounds so decided to try these from wilwood , searched thu forums and could not find for sure that anyone else had used them and if they fit correctly with no mods.

They do fit with my 15 inch wheels and the 10.5 stock front rotors no problems ,work great, look good, easy to clean powder coating.

My car is a rear drum brake car with a moser built ford 9 in. so the single piston version was the ones i needed to keep brake balance correct with the rear drums.

With the level of engine power you have, upgrading your entire front braking system would be a very wise idea. There may be a slight advantage to changing your calipers, but moving up to say a 2 piston 13" system would be light years ahead in terms of stopping ability.

If you are concerned about weight, many large brake kits do offer a reduction in mass with 2pc rotors and aluminum hubs and cailpers.

True enough but the 2pc and alum hubs with larger disc would be a upgrade but also comes with that alot more dollars. not to count if you change volume of only front to say a two piston caliper i would think it would mess up front to rear bias and then you will be changing proportioning valve out more $ and
master cylinder size considerations also may come into play depending on application and size or rear wheel cylinders and or calipers.

I do not road race the car ,
I do however run the car at drag strip ( best time 11.535 @ 116 mph ) never have brake fade, holds on tree fine , stops at other end fine ,so to me oem size are enough.

Everything I have read about this caliper says its worthless. Two smaller pistons with basically the same surface area of the STOCK single piston caliper.

Larger diameter rotor is needed. Wouldn't do it.

Indeed a 2pc rotor would be more $ than a 1pc - but it is also lighter, keep that in mind. 1pc is low cost and easy to find replacements.

I don't think you will have any issue with brake bias - I never did moving up to a 13" 2 piston kit from a stock 10.5" 1 piston one. My car had factory 4 wheel discs and might be more optimal.

I would not try to stop a 115mph or faster car with only 10.5" brakes - unless it was 1,500lbs. 13" is an avenue to consider, if not for just safety.

Like i said i was not needing to upgrade the system to something better, never have brake fade, holds on tree fine , stops at other end fine ,so to me oem size are enough.

Notice there are three choices in piston sizes ( I went with oem size single piston 2.50 inch)

Wilwood's D154 forged billet caliper is a direct bolt-on, lightweight, high-strength, extreme duty alternative to the OE cast iron calipers that were used on a wide range of factory disc brake equipped mid size GM cars and small trucks beginning in 1978. Use of this caliper can still be found on some GM models as late as the year 2002. The wide spread and affordable availability of D154 calipers and brake pad compounds also made it a popular choice in a number of restricted class competition categories and drum to disc conversions on all types of hot rods and street machines.

There are three piston configurations available for the D154: A large 2.50" single piston, and two two-piston models featuring 1.62/1.62" or 1.12/1.12" pistons. All three calipers utilize stainless steel pistons. Stainless pistons are used to resist corrosion and retard heat transfer from the pads into the caliper body. High temperature, square faced bore seals are used to provide controlled piston retraction and reliable performance from the wider sealing face. This combination of components is a proven performer with long service life and a history of reliable performance in any type of driving environment, including extreme sustained high temperature racing applications. The caliper slide pin holes are fitted with dampening rings to minimize noise from vibration. The caliper is also fitted with bleed screws on both ends to facilitate mounting in any left hand or right hand, front leading mount, or rear trailing mount locations.

it's a nice lower cost upgrade that works.
ya can drop a few lbs. and still look good. picked mine up about 2 years ago.

yes they do work..
even back when my Camaro was rnning 10's(1990's) and had stock brakes... car was always stopping just fine..

This part number is the single piston version. It is the same size piston as the stock caliper. The primary advantage here is better looks. It is possible this caliper is stiff than stock.

1. drops over 8lbs+ off of the car.
2.Bolt on. aftermarket part.
3.Looks 110% better then the oem part.
4.see#3. above....no mods needed. and holds up 100% to what it will see!

there are guys out there who keep there cars stock. and some who dont.
there are alot of aftermarket parts as well. some cost a butt load of money.
a few guys fall into the pit of if hes got it i got to have it..then you have the. what works..what looks good...and i dont have to spend a load of money.
some of the guys buy. what they like..some buy what others like...

if it works..and you like the looks.. and you have the money buy it...
expl..nexed eng..572 + 8-71 roots. efi....better then stock?..to some maybe.
to me..i know what works. and looks good :)

1. What data is this based on? My oem caliper sitting here with guide pins is 7.125lbs. I calculate the combined weight savings for both calipers to be 5.05lbs. Still not bad.

2. Did I say it isn't?

ill have to pop one(wilwood) on a scale. to refresh what i checked out last year..the one thing to look at is if they are closer to the wheel = fatter/thick
when i did my new wheels from weld draglites to the RTS wheels the new fronts i had to order med pads.. sold the weld draglites so fast never had time to check to see if they still fit... but ill check it out

That will be interesting. I was going off the advertised Wilwood weight. Wilwood is usually pretty good with their weights.
