Rear brake drum overhaul questions...

So I'm doing a full rebuild on my 10 bolt and I'm going to redo the stock brakes. I have some fresh aluminum drums so I want to use them. So what would you guys recommend as far as new rear shoes? Also, is it imperative to get a new spring kit? If the ones that are there are in good shape can I reuse them? What else should I check for while I have it all apart?

Drum brake parts are CHEAP. Go on RockAuto and order new wheel cylinders, new shoes, new adjusters, springs, the entire works. Pick up a new rear hose while you're at it. Properly lubricate all the right spots on the contact points, and moving parts, adjust everything right, and it should stop great.

That said, I've replaced shoes and the wheel cylinders and reused everything else with no problems in the past. I just figure that on a 30 year old car, if you're going to do it, spend the extra $20 on new hardware. Hell, I'd probably even pick up some fresh ebrake cables... MMmmm New parts... :)

Agree with Drew. People often times replace the front brake hoses and rear hoses on cars that came with rear disc brakes, but don't change out the single drum rear hose. The one on my car was about to burst from years of exposure to the elements.
