1989 Rear Brakes - 1LE vs NON 1LE

I was under the impression that in 89, ALL cars with rear discs were the PBR caliper cars, 1LE and other. ....many places list a 1LE part and a non 1LE part. I was just curious.

89 and up are the same pbr setup. Well, 89 is on the 9bolt and the 90-92 is on the 10 bolt

Yep. 89-92 cars are equipped with alum, single-piston PBR calipers and 11.6" rotors (the so-called 1LE or performance package; however, all rear disc brake cars, 89-92, have them). All four-wheel disc cars, regardless of year, are RPO J65.

Wonder if this has something to do with the 9-bolt that year. 89 was the only year for some brake parts because the PBR on a 9-bolt was a 1-year thing in 89 only. ( I don't know what brake parts your looking at )

I doubt all 89 1LE cars were equipped with 9-bolts ??

Then a 89 10 bolt PBR wouldn't be "1LE" ?? Right ??

I've never seen an '89 10 bolt with PBRs, they were all 9 bolts. '90-'92 they were 10 bolts.

I find it hard to believe that not a single TBI car in 89 had rear disk brakes,... or that the all to common 89 TPI IROC/TAs with auto/2.73 rear - or T5 with 3.08 - all had drum brakes ?? The 10 bolt Auburn with disc wasn't offered at all in 89 ??

Guess I learned sumthin' new today !

In '89, all L98s and G92s got the 9 bolt. All others the 10 bolt. Also, by '89, most performance pieces were either bundled or required to be bundled together. So 4 wheel discs could only be had on a 5.7 or any G92 which required a 9 bolt.
